Friday Favorites - Books, Books and More Books Edition

Happy Friday, Friends!!!  If you see me today and I'm extra happy it's because it is a teeny tiny bit cooler thanks to a storm that came through last night and I'll take whatever I can get at this point.

As always, Erika, Narci and I are sharing our Friday Favorites... so grab our graphic below, link back to one (or all!) of us and share your FAVORITES!!!

First up, in honor of it being September... is this tea towel not the cutest thing you've ever seen?!?!  It's $16 and according to the review online the words are actually stitched instead of printed!  It should be at my house next week so I'll update y'all :)  I have a feeling it will be a FAVORITE.

And if you're ordering the towel, you may want to add a couple of THESE to your online cart?  I know Christmas is FOREVER away, but I think that these would be the most precious teacher gifts!  You could roll a tea towel up, tie it with a pretty ribbon and have it stick out the top, fill it with homemade treats, pop a gift card in it OR do one of those sweet little mini Christmas trees in it!  Anyway, I always like to think ahead and I think that these are so fun!

I've mentioned before that I work with THE BEST teachers EVER and it's true!  We laugh so hard every single day!  Our principal wasn't on campus yesterday and so we piled into (and onto) Sharon's Jeep and sent him the pic below...

... we send him goofy pictures whenever he's off campus, but this was one of my FAVORITES.  We've taken the golf cart down to the baseball field and and taken pictures out on the field, sent him a picture of all of us at the playground, being "fake apprehended" by the school police officer, we've all pretended to be asleep at our desks and MANY others.  I told y'all we have a good time!

This picture is my FAVORITE from the week.  Maybe ever.

I'm not sure if this is funny if you're not a teacher... but just in case :)
On my way to lunch yesterday I ran into Luke and Lincoln taking their class cart back to the classroom.  These two cuties are some of my FAVORITES even if they were a hot, sweaty mess.  Luke gave me a HUGE hug and then wiped his sweaty head on my shirt.  Thanks, son. :)

Luke is SOOOO into our school's accelerated reader program.  He had me looking up books from his class's "chat and chew" program to see what their point value was and I laughed SO HARD because my phone auto-corrected tall to y'all :)  #youmightliveintexasif

Mason had his first soccer practice of the season last night and while it only lasted about 5 minutes (BOO, storm!) he and his FAVORITE friend made the most of it :)

Cutest little team!

And this girl had a great time watching the big girls play volleyball.  I was NOT into sports in school and I hope that she gives them a try.

Swinging is GG's FAVORITE!!!

And while this isn't the best picture of the kids look at that RAIN in the background!!!  Crazy, right?

We just got a Circle in our house and I am LOVING it!  My parents picked it up for us and it's seriously the coolest thing ever.  I'll blog more about it after we've had it for a while and I feel a little more prepared to give a full review, but after a few days I can tell you IT IS AWESOME!!!  It's this device that you hook up to your WiFi and then you can add devices connected to your WiFi to people's profiles and set limits, monitor time, apply filters, etc.

You can select an age range (preschool, kid, teen, etc.) and then select/deselect apps and websites that you do/don't want them to have access to.  It's great because you can link multiple devices to one account... so Luke's kindle and our laptop are linked to his profile and the time, etc. is cumulative.

And that pause button on the bottom??? You can pause individual profile's access to WiFi :)

So when I ask him to bring his laundry hamper downstairs and he pretends like he can't hear me I can hit pause and then all of a sudden his hearing is perfect ;)  I also love that I can monitor exactly what apps and websites he's using his time playing.

Last night Mason set up flashlights on our stairs, turned off the lights and busted some SERIOUS moves out in the front hall.  His dance parties are my FAVORITE!

Y'all know I love a good side-by-side comparison picture and so when I saw these on Facebook yesterday I knew I had to share them as a FAVORITE.

This little dancer is my FAVORITE!

Luke has had his nose in a book CONSTANTLY since school started thanks to accelerated reader.  He's moving on from Captain Underpants and expanding his horizon to other books and series :)

His teacher hosts a monthly book club, so I ordered those for him and then grabbed a few that I thought he'd love as well.  I'll keep you posted on his FAVORITES in case you have a kid around the same age.

Already starting on the stack :)

If you have a great book recommendation for him leave it in the comments!!!

I hope y'all have a FANTASTIC long weekend planned!  We have nothing on the books except for lots of time at home together and getting a few things ready for a shower I'm hosting next weekend.

I'm not sure whether I'll be blogging on Monday or not, but I'll for sure be back on Tuesday because it's Show and Tell Tuesday and we're going to share three things we can't live without!

Happy (almost) weekend, friends!

  11. Try "Runt" by Marion Bauer. It's about a wolf pup. Sweet story and boys/ girls love it.
Also "Guinea Dog" by Patrick Jennings (EVERYTHING by Patrick Jennings) it's about a Guinea pig who thinks he's a dog. It's told from his boy's perspective and is hilarious. Next year, try the Mason Dixon books - they are really funny but a bit harder and based on a 4th grade boy. The Imaginary Veterinary series by Suzanne Selfors is great, also. That one may be for next year too - I don't know Luke's reading level. Enjoy!

  12. Morning!! I'm making ziti using your recipe now. I looks yummy! (ha, I mean IT looks yummy).
I always use sonlight recommendations for reading. You can just google sonlight and navigate through the website by grade. They have some wonderful books. Also they will send you a summer list, it's a small list but usually very good. Some of the books you have are on their list:) All three of our children like what they suggest. Have a wonderful weekend!!

  13. Luke might like Ricky Ricotta's Mighty Robot series, the Cam Jansen series, or the Alex Series (by Nancy S. Levene & Michelle Dorenkamp -- older series that you'll have to buy used. My kids' 2nd grade teacher used to read them to the class. Great Christian series.).

  14. I am obsessed with that tea towel and the mugs!!! What great finds! If only I had money in the budget to buy unneccesary things...instead I am purchasing the final items for nursery and baby that is due in October...maybe one day I will actually get to buy things for me again! LOL!!!

    have a great weekend!

  16. Looks like you have a great group of coworkers!
I sent my teaching partner the "drops mic..." Meme last year and we laughed so much!
If I have to be back in school, I need all things fall. Now.
I didn't play sports as a kid, so I love watching my kids enjoy them now.
I can't wait for my son to fall in love with reading.

  22. Love the rain photo, crazy!! I love GG's rain boots, they seemed to fit her for a while now, did you just size up?

  23. Love the soccer practice post. I coach soccer to 5-7 year olds and it is hard to wrangle that age group! Whew, they wear me out! Also, as a teacher you don't feel like you get too many mugs as gifts? I am hesitant to order my son's teacher a mug because I feel like they receive so many. Thoughts?

  24. Oh my gosh, Mason is hysterical!! That is so funny that he sets up his own night club vibes to dance in!! And that picture of the kids with rain in the background is WILD!

  25. I loved a book series with books called Dear Levi: Letters from the Overland Trail, and Dear Austin: Letters from the Underground Railroad as a kid. I think the reading level is 3rd grade. I was always into history and loved these books. I also loved Dear Mr. Henshaw by Beverly Clearly.

  26. The Boxcar Children series is great! I don't recommend The Whipping Boy for this age though.

  27. Love this post, such fun favorites.
Has Luke read the "Hey Jack" series?

  28. We haven't started it yet, but my daughter who's 9 just bought a James Patterson book. I had no idea he wrote children's books. I read his books and love them, so I'm hoping he's just as good as a children's author.

  29. Lamplighter books! You probably won't find them on amazon. We've only read 1 so far, Teddy's Button...make sure you get the chapter book versus the picture book. But I've heard all the Lamplighter books are incredible. I need to try out another one.

  34. that picture is too funny! I bet she's also drinking a pumpkin spiced latte. Your kids are too adorable and it's awesome that Luke is such an avid reader. Can I ask what time the linkup party starts and how to get the graphic to add to my blog?

  35. I would love to hear about the book club and what all that entails. I have a second grader who has been begging to start a monthly book club (I go to one) and I don't know where to start

  36. I think Luke would be interested in The Boxcar Kids Series. 👍🏼

  37. Shiloh and Stone Fox are so good! Running out of Time is another good one. I'm gonna have to look at my book collections at home....I've got some favorites I think he'd love too! And Sarah, Plain and Tall.....if he reads those books and likes them...you HAVE to find him the movies with Christopher Walken and Glenn Close in them....I watched them in school, and to this day they are one of my very favorite movie series.
