Weekend Recap: First Sleepover Edition

Luke talked all week last week about a birthday sleepover he had been invited to.  He's had a couple of friends sleep over at our house, but this was going to be his first time to sleep at a friends house.  I had heard about swimming and Star Wars and snacks and ALL of that for a solid 6 days :)

Friday afternoon rolled around and he packed up his bag and got ready to head out.  He insisted that he bring pillows and a blanket instead of a sleeping bag for fort-building purposes :)

He was a little bit nervous, but I assured him that he'd get there, have the best time and not think about being nervous again.

I lament often about Luke growing up.  He was JUST born and now, like 6 minutes later, he's packing his own clothes and staying up until midnight with his friends.

BUT, somehow every age is awesome.... and even though I'd do just about anything to go back in time and rock him to sleep just one more time... I'm not sure I'd trade that for the conversations we get to have now, the joy of watching him become his own person OR the fact that he can make his own lunch :) hahaha

The birthday boys dad posted this on Saturday morning and I think it probably sums up the party.  Pure, eight year old fun!

While Luke was wrapping up the sleepover fun, Griffin and I were at dance pictures.  Last August I decided to enroll GG in a two year old class at a local studio and she has had so much fun!  Her recital is next Saturday (moving day... seriously) and although my PLAN is to get her to the recital, we'll just have to wait and see.

Look at all that tulle!!!  We got to sneak into the room and grab a few quick pics while they were getting the class all set up.  We left long before the actual pictures started so they would be focused on the photographer but what I wouldn't have given to have been a fly on the wall :)

I can't wait to see her pictures!

After pictures they moved into the big studio where they ran through their routine.

After the rehearsal their teacher surprised them all with a trophy.  Griffin was so excited!  Her trophy has sat with her at dinner and she feeds it apple slices. hahaha

Look how cute!!!  Dave and I hung out Ansley's dad in high school.  Crazy, right???

Those same cuties on GG's very first class back in August!

We got home to this... and yes, those are pirate tattoos on his legs.  Because duh.

We spent the rest of Saturday packing, cleaning and getting ready for the move.

Sunday morning we played hooky from church and my dad came over to help us take the kids beds apart (we wanted to go ahead and have everything disassembled).  When we pulled Mason's bed away from the wall there were DOZENS of Legos behind there.  He has completely denied any culpability in the situation and is claiming that Jack Bauer put the Legos back there :)  Regardless, he cleaned them all up and even found a few pieces he and Luke had been looking for.

The best part was when Luke goes, "Hey, Mason!  If you find any money back there - it's probably mine, okay?" hahahaha

Griffin's room was looking so sad! hahaha  I'm soooooo ready to get them all set up again in the new house!

Hand washing turned beard making ;)

It's been GORGEOUS here this weekend and we soaked up some time outside before dinner...

... it's hard to believe that this was the last weekend in this house!!!  It didn't even really hit me until I was putting the kids to bed and I realized that next Sunday night we'll be getting backpacks and uniforms set out in the new house.  We're so stinkin' excited!!!

This week is going to be a crazy one - two closings, exam prep, field trip, the list goes on and on.  We may be limping across the finish line but we're determined to finish! ;)

Happy Monday, Friends!

  13. Best of luck to you in your crazy week ahead! Sounds like all fun but busy stuff!

If you have time for a quick question, I'm wondering if you have any golden suggestions how you keep three kids entertained when you actually need periods of focused productivity? I feel I'm always at my parenting worst when I'm doing something (like the labor of dissembling a bed in your example) and three kids all immediately need all kinds of "help" with whatever they're doing. It's hard to keep patience, and they don't seem to get how much faster the boring part would be over and something more fun could begin if they could entertain themselves for a whole hour! [gasp] ;)
