Three Things Right Now

- LUKE -

1 - He is kicking First grade's hiney.  Like on the daily.  He knows his spelling words on the day they're assigned, has the neatest handwriting and is making lots and lots of friends.

2 - He STILL loves rocks.  I really don't even remember when this started, but he's still adamant that he's going to be a geologist and several of the sweet teachers at school have given him some specimens (I was informed by Luke that this is the correct word to use) from their personal collections which has made him feel so special and loved.

3 - He is turning into such an awesome big boy.  I lament often about him growing up, but the truth is that I love watching him mature and become independent.  I miss his little baby belly and snaggle tooth smile, but watching him take pride in things like making his own lunch, walking into school by himself and emptying the whole dishwasher makes me excited to see what an amazing young man he is going to be.  As long as he never loses his dimple I think I'll be okay :)

- MASON -

1 - Mason has an amazing vocabulary.  He uses words like exasperated and apparently and then we have conversations like this, "Mommy, Mrs. Anderson is NOT blonde... she doesn't even wear glasses or have one of those sticks blonde people have". ;)

2 - He is my snuggler.  Ever since school started he's been extra snuggly and at the end of the day if he gets a little bit weepy he'll come grab my hand and tell me he needs me.  Just me.  Well, alright then!  Snuggle away, little one.  Snuggle away.

3 - He LOVES school!  Mainly he loves the people at school.  He knows everyones names (not just in his class, but other classes and grades) and when I ask him about his day his stories almost always revolve around something that he did with someone.  Every morning I watch him run down the deck, giant backback in tow, and I know he's off to a great day.

- GRIFFIN -

1 - Griffin's favorite phrase right now is "I too!  I too!"  She wants to go and do everything that her brothers are doing and doesn't want to be left out.  Ever.  And if she's not included, she makes it happen for herself by pulling over a chair, climbing up and doing it herself. :)  She's rough and tumble and sugary and sweet.

2 - She has zero interest in potty training.  Back in the summer I thought she was ready and we bought underwear and made a go of it, but she completely lost interest and so we're taking her lead on it and while we still ask her if she wants to try the potty, we're not pushing it.

3 - Her favorite things to play right now are definitely water colors, babies, play kitchen and Duplos.  She loves to play with water in the sink, hang out in the playhouse outside and she'd swing on the swing set all day.

- JACK BAUER -

1 - Jack is as curly and cute as ever.

2- We always said we'd never have a dog in our bed, and while he sleeps in his own crate at night, he does hang out on our bed at night while we watch TV and read before bed.  I'd like to say he snuggles with me, but he's pretty much always in the crook of Dave's arm.

3 - He is a PRO at fetch.  And believe it or not he can somehow tote around a tennis ball in his teeny mouth.  The kids wear him out nightly with chase and fetch.

- DAVE -

1 - Dave is THE BEST! When he rolled in from work yesterday and I told him to stand still and let me take his picture he didn't even question me :)  He supports all my shenanigans and is my biggest fan.  When I get snippy in the mornings (GASP!) he completely rolls with it and never ever holds it against me.... he provides the caffeine and waits for it to kick in :)

2 - He may be more ready for Fall than I am.  Which is shocking.  He runs around A LOT at work and I think he's ready for cooler temperatures and the soups, stews and all the baking that come along with the cool down.

3 - He's coaching Luke's soccer team and is AMAZING at it.  He coached last year and wasn't going to coach again this year, but when no one else stepped up to do it he said of course because Dave would do anything for our kids.... even coach 11 first graders ;)

- ME -

1 - Homecoming is next week and I'm in pre-HoCo mode... ordering, emailing, song listing, stressing and planning my outfits for Spirit Week.  I'm hoping that bags under my eyes will coordinate with the daily themes because it's been B.U.S.Y getting ready :)

2 - I can't stop eating Honey Crisp apples.  The amount of money we're spending on $3.99/lb pure delicousness is crazy... but there's absolutely nothing better.  I know I will miss them when they're gone for the season, so I'm getting my fill while I can.

3 - I'm mourning the loss of the peach green tea lemonade.  My local Starbucks is out of the peach syrup and while I'm tempted to order a bottle of peach syrup and attempt my own version, I'm fairly certain that I need to bid the drink (and the calories) adieu until next Summer. ;)

So, those are our three things right now... what three things are going on with you? :)

  2. I HAVE to share this with you....

I have bought 2 at a time each time I'm at Target! I mix it with Crystal Light lemonade to cut down on the calories. But maybe you're right, let it be a summer thing and it will be extra special to sip on after a long winter. :)

  4. My favorite part of this post is that Dave just jumped in for a pic, no questions asked. My guy would have hemmed and hawed and told me 1,000 reasons I didn't need his picture. DAVE GETS A THOUSAND GOLD STARS!!!!!!! :)

    1. Right?!?! I'm not sure whether this is a testament to his awesomeness or proof that I ask him to do a lot of weird stuff and he's just used to it :) hahaha

  5. So cute! Jotting down these every day things, like Griffin's favorite phrase, is such a wonderful idea! Such precious memories!

  6. What a great post!!!! Love this idea!!! I had asked Greer 20 questions last week...so much fun to see the world through their sweet, little eyes. I know homecoming will be gorgeous!!!

  7. What a fun post...I may "borrow" it. And it's always a sad day when the peach syrup is gone. I thought about ordering some last year but didn't. I truly look so forward and get so excited when it rolls back around again in the spring and I can get my first one! Have a great day!!!

  8. I just love the fact that Luke wants to be a geologist. My husband is a geologist, and he wanted to be one since he was a little boy too. And he made it happen. Geologists are really special people- full of creativity and curiosity about the world around them (even as adults!). Good luck, Luke! p.s.- My husband still collects specimens. :)

  9. What a great post! May have to use this for my sweet family as well! And my oldest (a boy) loves rocks too :) That would be pretty awesome if Luke grew up to be a geologist!

  14. Yes!!!! What Mrs. Less said above! I also buy the Tazo Iced Peachy Green Tea and mix one cup (50 calories) with one cup of Minute Maid Light Lemonade (15 calories) for a pretty good sized tea that tastes verrrrrry close to Starbucks and only has 65 calories total! I get mine at Kroger, I know they have it at Target too. I have to drink green tea year round...#addicted.

  15. I ADORE this post. It is one of my favorites that you have ever done. Also, from what you put on the blog (and I don't have a doubt any of it is made up) you seriously picked the BEST person to do life with. Dave seems like the absolute sweetest. As for honeycrisp apples...don't even get me started. So. Good. :) Have a super day!

    1. Oh my goodness! Thank you! And yes, Dave is the absolute best! For example, he runs to Starbucks for me every morning and does a lot of the grocery shopping. I mean! :)

  16. Love this post!!! If time permits, could you make it a monthly thing? I am sad about the peach green tea lemonade, too. Have you tried the jasmine lime tea cooler from Peet's? Not sure if you have a Peet's coffee in TX. The drink is amazing -- but they only have it in the summer when limeade from Odwalla are in season.

  17. I was just coming to tell you about the boxed Iced Peachy Green tea at Target, but I see two people have beaten me to it! It's the BEST! It's one of the few store bought replacements that actually tastes like the real thing and it's a steal compared to buying it at Starbucks!

  18. Sounds like your family is doing great!!

Jack Bauer is so cute, I have a 17 week old Maltipoo puppy, any potty training tips to share? He seems so well behaved for being so young and great with your kids!

  20. I get a little ragey this time of year when they tell me they're out of the peach syrup! =(

  21. What a sweet post! My four year old loves rocks as well, so hubs and I keep saying that he's going to be a geologist. Every time we run the washing machine, I start hearing clankity clanking and realize that I forgot to check his pockets to empty all of the rocks that he's smuggled in the house. :o)

  22. Haha - the Honeycrisp Apples - YES!! Love them, but I try to limit to once a day. Our grocery usually has a week or two where they go on sale .99/lb --- can't wait!!

  23. Love this post about your family, Andrea. So glad Dave and Jack Bauer are included - we see them in pics, and you mention them, but it's good to see them "up close".

  24. 1. I am so ready for Fall. It is HOT here in Central California and even at our beach house and I AM OVER IT!
    2. My oldest daughter (26 yrs old) is getting married in less than a month and I AM SO EXCITED!!!
    3. My youngest daughter (22 yrs old) is in her last year at Fresno State and is so busy with sorority recruitment, her Ag College Leadership council and her internship at Simplot Ag Growers and I couldn't be MORE PROUD!
    Happy Fall!

  27. This post touched me. Your family is just beautiful - inside and out. I plan to introduce my 31 year old, unmarried daughter to your blog so that she can learn how families are possible, even in this upside down world.

  29. Oh no!!!! Seriously it's such a tragedy when Starbucks runs out of peach. It's when you know summer is officially over. Every time I walk in, my first question is "do you still have peach syrup"? I'm not ready for it to be gone!

  30. Dave seems like an amazing husband and dad! You sure chose a good one :)
    Have a nice day!
