Weekend Recap - Dave's Birthday Edition

It's Back To School week for us and we are so excited!  The boys have loved being at ESS (our extended care service) while I've been in meetings, but we're all ready to get in our classrooms.  Tonight is meet the teacher and the boys are excited to meet their teachers and find out who are in their classmates and I'm ready to meet my middle schoolers!  It's such a fun night.

Friday, the boys came to school with me and I had a morning full of meetings.  We spent several hours discussing the importance of curiosity and fostering curiosity in our classrooms... by noon I needed a brain break and that came in the form of some Mexi Dips and chips and Taylor Swift in the Taco Bueno parking lot :)  Because glamorous.

We kept up the healthy eating kick (insert side eye here) on Friday night with our weekly "Friday Night Pizza Night" tradition.  We don't let a drop of garlic sauce go to waste in our house.

Saturday morning I was running a bunch of errands and Dave sent me this picture of Griffin...

... this is what happens when Daddy picks your clothes in the morning :)

Meanwhile, while I waited in the crazy lines at the uniform store (hello, tax free weekend!) , I was swooning over the bows, ruffle socks and other girly accessories.  Think of the saddle shoes!!!

After Dave went in to work and everyone was up from their naps, I tried G's new sweatshirt on her and caught these...

We are so ready for Fall!!!

We did a little pre-dinner watercolors and I always have fun watching her perfect little pencil grip.

I've always done art projects with all three of the kids, but Griffin definitely takes the most time and interest in them.  Given her choice of any activity she will almost always choose painting.

Sunday we did church, lunch and then we all napped in the afternoon.  While we were napping the crock pot was cooking away and that evening my parents came by to eat the BEST pulled pork ever and celebrate Dave's 32nd birthday with us (it was actually Saturday... but he was working. BOO!).

I've mentioned this before, but we have a couple baskets of goofy dress up hats, and when my parents come over for family dinners we all pick a goofy hat and wear them while we eat.  :)

It's silly and cheesy and so much fun. hahaha

Dave's FAVORITE dessert is coconut cream pie, and since I don't like coconut (and I'm not super experienced in cream pies) I deferred to the experts and ordered him one from our favorite pie shop.  I didn't taste it, but apparently it fulfilled all of his coconutty birthday expectations.

We lit Dave's birthday candle about 8 times so everyone could have multiple turns blowing it out :)

Over the weekend Dave and I were talking about our childhood birthday parties and such and we were laughing so hard at these pictures of Dave growing up.  Apparently announcing your birthday in the local paper used to be the thing to do :)

As was the annual "smile with your cake photo" :)

Happy Monday, friends!  Tomorrow I'm sharing the LAST installment of our Colorado trip posts and I think it's the best one yet :)  I hope y'all have a fantastic day!!!

  7. Oh, why oh why does Houston not have a Taco Bueno. Seriously it's always my first stop whenever I come back to Plano. Mexi Dip and chips is my true love language.

  13. Sweet memories..I love that you guys wear the hats! The picture in the paper must totally be a small town thing as that was common in my hometown growing up too. Luke is a spitting image of his dad and Griffin of you...Mason must be a perfect little combo!

  16. Did Dave go by David when he was a kid? Or is he like my brother Matt? I tease my mom that she only refers to him as Matthew on birthday cakes & in cards.

    1. All of his family calls him David, but when we met in school he introduced himself as Dave and that's what he went by at school.

  17. Happy Birthday Dave! I did the picture with the cake thing growing up (and honestly, still do). Haha :) One year I asked for a Mickey Mouse cake. Black icing made for some very interesting pictures!
