Weekend Wrap-Up: Mothers Day Edition

We ended Teacher Appreciation week on Friday with a whole lot of sunflowers for Luke's teachers.  Ever since he was in the "yellow room" for Mother's Day Out, sunflowers have been his "signature pick" :)

After school Luke and I hit up Sonic for some Happy Hour and ice cream...

He thought he was HOT STUFF getting to sit in the front seat and enjoy his special treat...

When we got home from school Jack Bauer's bomber jacket had arrived and we took a ridiculous amount of embarrassing photos of him :)

I found the little jacket on MAJOR sale and couldn't resist some frivolous cuteness.  Just wait until Halloween :)

Friday night we colored and Mason insisted on every piece of his "art" being on display.
#masonwashere

Then, after art time, Luke decided to cut Mason's hair.  #awesome

Thankfully, it's on the top and when it's spikey, you can't really tell... but lesson learned, mama.  Lesson learned.

Saturday morning we woke up bright and early ready to start our day!

This is my "I'm happy to be out without multiple children to take care of face" :) hahaha

I met up with Ashleigh and her friends to pass along the tutu and we ended up chatting for close to two hours.  Kids, careers, cancer and everything in between.  We had the best time.

These girls are all such great friends and it was so much fun to get to know them a bit.

If you haven't already, be sure to check out Ashleigh's blog and learn more about her journey with Inflammatory Breast Cancer.  Before reading her blog I, honestly, had no clue this type of cancer even existed.  Read up and pass along her blog to other women!

After a couple errands, I headed home to clean out Griffin's room.  She's been showing signs of climbing out of her crib and so we decided that now was the time to make the change.  I was totally okay with it up until we started to take the crib apart and then I kind of lost it.  For SEVEN YEARS this crib has held a baby in our house (it went on hiatus for a few months while we were waiting for Mason, but still) and the thought of not having a crib hit me HARD.  I ugly cried, sniffed some baby lotion, and felt really sorry for myself and then sucked it up and moved on. hahaha

I think I was distracted by the entire contents of G's room being in our family room.

Since her crib was dismantled and the big girl bed wasn't ready yet, she and I napped in my bed.

It was just what this mama needed!

Saturday night my parents came over and watched the kids and I headed out to the MCA "Night at the Movies" Choir show.  It was awesome.  The high school and middle school choirs put on a big production every Spring and this year the theme was movies.

There was even a Napoleon Dynamite reenactment :)

Popcorn, candy and watching my kids in their element.  PERFECTION!

I LOVE getting to see my students outside of the classroom, showcasing their talents.  It's a completely different side of them that I love getting to experience.

Then I got to come home to this...

... my mom settled her right down and her first night in her big girl bed went perfectly.

Sunday morning we woke up to this....

.... and I woke up with no peripheral vision and a migraine.  Thankfully, I was able to grab another hour or so of sleep (and some advil) and got it "under control" before Dave had to head in to work.

We spent the rest of the day reading Lego books...

... and crafting for Gibi.

Griffin Joy loooooooooves markers!!!

I drew some basic flowers on a piece of poster board and then cut them out.  I gave one to each of the kids and let them do their thing.  They ended up being PERFECT examples of their little personalities.  Luke tested out different shades of yellow before picking the most "sunflowerish" one.  Griffin methodically pulled the lid off the marker, gripped the marker perfectly, and scribbled precisely. And Mason covered his in sparkly star stickers...  That Mason is always understated :) hahaha

We skipped out on church (boo! but there was no way I wanted to get everyone in and out of the car in an actual flash flood by myself. hahaha), and had a super "unglamorous" day, but it was exactly what we all needed.

It rained ALL morning and afternoon and we played lots of games, watched a movie and I worked on putting together Griffin's room.  Dave got off work around 4, the skies cleared and we picked up my parents and headed to the Square for my FAVORITE pizza on the planet.

The best present???  A break in the rain and a picture with my loves where everyone is looking!!!  AMEN!!!

We ate at Mellow Mushroom because I DREAM about their red potato pie (try it! trust me!) and even though it was crazy humid, it was nice to get out for a bit and get some fresh air.  This love bug wants to hold my hand at all times :)

My peeps know my love language... pizza, peonies and peach green tea lemonade :)

It was a great weekend... albeit WAY too rainy.  My boys are ready to get outside and PLAY, plus... a lot of our yardwork has been washed away (boo!!!).  It's supposed to rain ALL WEEK again - so I have lots of crafts and other fun activities up my sleeve.

Have a FANTASTIC Monday, friends!!!

  7. We live in Denver, CO and on Saturday night we had several weather warnings as well...ones we will probably never see at the same time again. We had a Tornado Warning, Winter Storm Warning and a Flood Warning. Then Sunday there was 10 inches of snow on the ground! :)

  8. Happy weekend Andrea except for the migraine headache. Wonder if it was weather/atmospheric pressure related. You and your family are adorable. California will take some of the McKinney rain if we figure a way to get it here. please pray for us as we battle a very serious drought. Mandatory water usage cutbacks of at least 25% .

    1. He's pretty stinkin' adorable without the jacket, so the jacket pretty much sends him over the top on the cuteness scale :) hahaha

  15. This is my favorite kind of post you do! Your house seems like the COZIEST! Especially on a stormy day. I love it.
This weather has been crazy, huh? Glad Griffin's big-girl-bed transition went so smoothly. I remember that transition with my boys. I have got to make the trek from Frisco to try that yum-sounding pizza, for sure. Loved the kiddos' "flower personalities!" :)
