Halloween: Pumpkin Carving

On Halloween (after I got home from school, fed Mason, and put Mason down for a nap), we decided to carve our pumpkin. I let Luke go out into the backyard and pick a pumpkin from our very own patch (our party was the night before and he had about 20 pumpkins to choose from!). He chose a GREAT pumpkin and while I was cutting the top off he decided to draw a picture of what he wanted the pumpkin face to look like:
Once the top was off it was time to scoop out the "guts". He wanted NO PART of this last Halloween so I was anxious to see how it would go this year... I think his face says it all:
"No way in HECK am I putting my hands in THERE to get those GUTS out!"
This was kind of surprising to me considering the fact that this boy has no problem touching grubs, slugs, bugs, boogers and various other gross things. Pumpkin guts seem pretty tame to me, but apparently not to Luke :)

I tried showing him that it really wasn't that bad and he looked at me like I was crazy...

Mommy (and her giant sweatshirt and crazy hair) ended up doing all of the work :)

MAYBE!!!

He did it!!! (and in the process decided it would be a good idea to dangle spit out of his mouth... somehow that made the situation less gross) Next year Mason will be part of the carving... interested to see if he's like his brother (who's like his daddy) and won't want to help clean the pumpkin out :)
