Apple Crisp

I'm doing everything I can to somehow get fall to arrive by sheer will power ;)  I'm lighting Fall candles, getting out the pumpkin decorations and baking ALLLLL the Fall things.

Today I'm sharing my recipe for apple crisp!  It's so simple and easy buy SO SO SO SO GOOD!!!

HERE'S WHAT YOU'LL NEED
- 10 cups peeled apples (granny smith or other baking apples)
- 1 cup white sugar
- 1 tablespoon flour
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnmamon

- 2 cups quick cooking oats
- 2 cups flour
- 2 cups packed brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 cup butter, melted

HERE'S WHAT YOU'LL DO
Step 1 - Peel and slice your apples.  I use  this slicer and then cut each slice in half with a paring knife.  I used 8 average/large sized Granny Smith apples. You want to use a more tart apple otherwise your crisp will end up mushy and too sweet.

Step 2 - In a large bowl mix together the 1 cup sugar, 1 tablespoon flour and 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon.  Place the apples into the bowl and toss them to coat.

Step 3 - In a large bowl mix together the 2 cups oats, 2 cups flour, 2 cups brown sugar, 1/2 teaspoon baking powder and 1/2 teaspoon baking soda.  Pour in the 1 cup melted butter and continue to mix until everything is coated.

Step 4 - Pour the apples into a 9 x 13 baking dish.  Cover with the crumble topping and bake at 350 degrees for about 45 minutes.

Let it set for about 30 minutes and then serve warm.  This has TONS of crumble topping and the apples come out baked, but definitely not soggy or overdone.

This is wonderful on it's own, served alongside a scoop of vanilla ice cream OR with a cup of hot tea in the morning (apples and oats totally qualify it as breakfast, right???)

Happy (almost) Fall, y'all!!!
