Garlic Bread

I'm here to admit that I've always been a frozen garlic bread/Texas toast purchaser until a few weeks ago when I tried homemade garlic bread.  I'll never go back.  EVER.

Get yourself a large loaf of crusty bread (I believe that this is an "Italian" loaf from my local Kroger... but anything will do) and cut it in half horizontally.  Place it on a foil-covered baking sheet (or don't cover it with foil - I just like the easy cleanup).

In a bowl mix together a stick and a half of butter (I know, I know), 1 cup of grated parmesan, a BUNCH of garlic (my favorite is about 4 tsp of the jarred garlic - but you can adjust to your tastes), a few shakes of garlic powder, a pinch or so of salt and pepper, a shake of Italian seasoning and some fresh (or dried) parsley.  Mix it all together until it's combined and then spread it all over the bread.  It's going to seem excessive and like way too much, but trust.

Pop it in your oven at 425 for about 20 minutes, but keep an eye on it.  Mine tends to get a little brown on the edges before the middle is toasty enough so I like to throw some foil over the top if it starts getting too brown.

Slice and enjoy!

I really don't know why I had always assumed this was going to be hard - it's so easy, customizable to your tastes and so much better than store-bought garlic bread.

If you try it out I'd love to hear what you think!

HAPPY Thursday, friends!!!

  1. I always make garlic bread from scratch but I never thought of putting the cheese right in with the butter. I will be trying that next time!!

  3. I have always loved making my own garlic bread. It tastes better and is so much cheaper than store bought. I have never used parmesan, but I am definitely trying it next time I make some.

  4. Yum! I love making a version of this - with chopped olives and green onions. Butter, green & black olives, chopped green onions, garlic, parmesan and a little mayo to get it to the right consistency. :)

  5. Add some shredded cheddar and shredded mozzarella for extra cheesy garlic bread. #chefskiss

  6. I know this sounds weird, but try putting grape or strawberry jelly on top once it comes out of the oven. The combination of sweet and salty is amazing! Trust me.
