Statue of Liberty Craft

Earlier this summer we had a lazy afternoon at home and I decided to break out the art supplies and give my kids an "assignment" to create the statue of liberty.  I LOVE giving my kids the same task and seeing their personalities come out in the finished product (remember  the treehouse craft we did last year???) and this little project did NOT disappoint.

We got out 12x12 watercolor paper, pencils, sharpies and watercolors to start and I pulled up  this tutorial for drawing Lady Liberty.

Snacks forever ;)

I really left them alone on this... music, snacks, lots of supplies and it was SO MUCH FUN to see what they came up with and how each of their personalities really shone through.

Mason's was vibrant and busy and FULL of detail...

Griffins was girly (peep the eyelashes), happy (that smile!) and very HER with the addition of some glitter fireworks ;)

... and Lukes was as close to the example as it could be ;) hahaha

They added on a few finishing touches and then I popped them into the three frames in our play room that I love displaying their art in...

Aren't they fantastic?!?!?!

As my kids get older and the art projects get fewer and farther in between I absolutely TREASURE these pieces and love having them displayed.

If you homeschool or are just looking for a way to incorporate some reading/research/writing into your art project here are a few books you could look into adding to your personal library or put on hold at your local library.  Happy crafting, friends!!!
