Spaghetti Pie

I wasn't planning on sharing this recipe today but after sharing a few sneak peeks on my instagram story yesterday it became pretty apparent that LOTS of people wanted to know more ASAP ;)  So here we are!

What you'll need...
- 1 lb spaghetti
- 1 lb ground beef or sausage
- yellow onion, chopped
- 1/2 cup ricotta
- 1/2 cup + 2 tablespoons grated parmesan
- 2 cups marinara sauce
- 3 eggs
- parsley
- salt and pepper

Step 1 - Boil your pasta a couple minutes less than the package directions al dente. They'll cook more when you bake it so no worries ;)

Step 2 - Brown your meat with your chopped onion
(note - mine looks like a TON of meat because I was browning double to make two pies.  I did a pound of sausage and a pound of ground beef with almost a whole onion)

Step 3 - In a large bowl, whisk together 2 cups marinara sauce, 1/2 cup whole milk ricotta, 1/2 cup grated parmesan, 3 eggs, some chopped parsley, salt and pepper.

Step 4 - Mix in your pasta, meat and onion and toss to coat.

Step 5 - Spray a 9" springform pan with cooking spray
(I have this pan and can't say enough great things about it!)

Step 6 - Pour the pasta mixture into the pan and top with 1 cup shredded mozzarella and then finish with the additional 2 tablespoons of grated parmesan.

This is a great part to employ a little helper ;)

Step 7 - Bake at 350 for 25-30 mins (I did 25) or until the cheese is melted and starting to get the delicious crispy parts on top.  Let it rest for 5 minutes and then pop that springform open!  (Make sure your kids are around because it's really cool to watch!)

TA-DA!!!  So cool, right?!?!

You can cut it just like a regular pie (I used a big serated knife) and it's a cute little presentation.

It was DELICIOUS, a comfort food and WAY easier than the presentation makes it look.

Happy Tuesday, friends!!!  If you make this I'd love to hear what you think!

  9. My kids would love this! As long as you tell them it's cottage cheese instead of ricotta. Ha! Great use for a springform pan.

  15. OMG that's so funny! My family makes a Spaghetti Pie recipe and when I saw yours I was like, is it the same? And its actually different - mine use the spaghetti as more of a crust and the meat/sauce filling goes in the center with cottage cheese and then the shredded cheese! Great dish!

  18. Hi, I'm Elisa, writing from Italy, I'm italian... and wow, your receipt is so home for me... but if I can suggest, try cooking the sauce with the meat this way: first fry the onion, then put the meat and cook for a while, then put the sauce, cover it and let cook for 40 to 60 minute (put some water if need), after that you can turn the fire off and put pasta into sauce and only at the end eggs and all the other ingredients... let me know if you'll try!

p.s. love your blog and your style!!

    xoxo
    Elisa
