Easy Ribbon Wands

Griffin and I whipped up some easy little ribbon wands this week and I thought I'd share in case you're looking for a fun craft/activity for the weekend.

I grabbed two little dowel rods (and ended up cutting one in half with scissors), a whole bunch of ribbon, some bells, washi tape and a few little screw eyes from a package of photo hanging supplies I had.

I cut the dowel rods in half, screwed a screw eye into one end and then wrapped the rod in washi tape.  Next I cut lengths of ribbon, pulled them through the screw eye and tied them in a knot.  On one of the wands I threaded a few bells through the ribbon and tied that on as well.  EASY!

And y'all... Jellybean was LOVING it even before it was done :)

We made a  really long rainbow one and then a shorter "princess" one as well.

I literally just knotted it... I'm thinking of adding a dot or two of hot glue just because after all the twirling and dancing and such I did have to retie it.

Isn't it funny how sometimes the simplest little toys entertain them the longest?  She got the BIGGEST kick out of her wands.

This could not have been easier and I think there are so many fun variations/modifications you could do (this is how my brain works - hahaha)...

- Holiday colors (green, orange, black and purple for Halloween or red, green, gold and white for Christmas)

- A special birthday wand to set out on the table alongside their party hat on a birthday

- a great homemade stocking stuffer

- you could put ribbons on both ends and make it more of a baton

- red, white and blue with lots of bells for the Fourth of July parade

- School colors with bells (and shorter ribbons) for cheering at a football game

- Inexpensive party favor for a little girls bday party

I hope you feel a bit inspired and are already thinking about who you want to make a wand for :)

Happy Thursday, friends!

  9. Girl, you just took me back to when I was 11 years old and my BFF and I both wanted ribbon dancers in the worst way. DO YOU REMEMBER THOSE?! Anyway, we found some sticks and tied crepe paper to them and we ribbon danced our hineys off to the Lion King soundtrack. Yours is a much cuter version of the ones we made. Haha.

  10. LOVE these!! These just might be our birthday party favors for my little's princess party in December! I just have to figure out what to do for the boys!
