Back-to-School Gear with Walmart

Today is our first day of school and it is my absolute PLEASURE to share some back-to-school gear we purchased not for ourselves but for local students in need.  Walmart had a HUGE selection of backpacks and other back-to-school gear that made shopping super easy in a really busy time of the year.  I went online and let each of the kids pick out a backpack (or two!) that they liked to be donated to a school supply drive for a local Title One school here in McKinney.

Luke picked out  this Marvel backpack...

... and Griffin picked  the flippy sequin lunch box and  iridescent rainbow backpack.  #shocker

I couldn't say no to  the furry tie-dye looking unicorn bag as well as  this clear one with sweet treats and a glitter pocket and they all arrived on our doorstep in TWO DAYS!  It was awesome.  My kids absolutely loved picking out the backpacks and it was special for them to pick something that they thought would make another student feel special as they headed back to school.

In  this post I shopped for some new clothing for a sweet little girl whose family had just suffered a house fire and I decided to take on her school supply list as well.  Walmart made tackling the list easy and I was able to get everything she needed in one trip.  YESSSSS!!! ONE. TRIP.

Griffin went with me and helped me pick out a  special backpack to put everything in and we tried to pick out supplies that she would be excited about and proud of throughout the year.

This back-to-school season has been a really meaningful one for our family and it has absolutely been a blessing to get to help out and give back a bit.  We've done projects like this around Christmas time for years but it was a great opportunity to talk to our kids about there being needs year round and how simple it can be to step in and help with some of those needs.

Thank you so much to Walmart for sponsoring this post - all of these items were purchased by our family and all commissions from this post will be put toward a gift card for the family who lost their home to a fire.  Thank y'all so much for reading and supporting my blog!!!

    1. It's a hard balance because I NEVER want anything to come off as "look at what we did" but at the same time sometimes seeing what others are doing inspires me to go out and do the same! I'm so glad you enjoyed the post!

  5. WONDERFUL! There are definitely needs that need to be met year round! What a great way to bless a family in need and get the kids involved.

  6. I find it interesting that everyone Walmart sponsors a post you donate the items. If/when you are being sponsored by Nordstrom, Anthropoly, or Matilda Jane, you keep the items for yourself. Seems the Walmart must be beneath YOU, but perfectly fine for a little girls who lost everything.

    1. Not at all! I've actually done several sponsored posts from Walmart where I've kept and love the items... specifically the summer post I did featuring kids bathing suits, the Christmas porch post and the women's clothing posts. My kids and I DO wear and use items from Walmart but since my kids wear uniforms and we buy supplies through the school I decided to use these posts as an intentional opportunity to spread a little back-to-school love!

    2. I cannot even imagine commenting something like that on a post where someone is helping out a family who had something very unfortunate happen. Yikes. Pencils are pencils no matter where you get them. I’m sure the family was very thankful!

  7. For some reason, I get way more generous at BTS time than I do at Christmas. I know that sounds strange, but I just feel like a new year is a new start and I want to help kids have the best one yet! You are a great example to your kids and those around you.

  8. I love that you are teaching your kids to give back! In this day and age.....its so unresponsible for parents to just buy buy buy and show off what they have but not think about giving to those who may not be in a position to do that. In our little town, my husband generously donates to all city and private schools. He has done a huge christmas luncheon for 20 years to support our local Salvation Army, They look forward to filling baskets (and kettles) every season. God bless you Andrea! There is a special place in heaven for those with hearts such as yours and my husbands! Have a great school year!

  11. Walmart is heaven for back to school supplies. It is my love. I get coupons from them all the time and they always have great deals when I come in. Deals like “50 off” And “ 30% off” are what make me save a lot of money everytime I shop there.
