Christmas Books

I shared several books from our Christmas stash last year in THIS POST and today I'm sharing a few new titles that I've picked up to add to our collection this year.  I love to put out seasonal books as it makes picking a bedtime book extra easy and I find that having "fresh" books out sparks their interests and I often catch them reading through them independently or to each other.

First up on the list is Olive, The Other Reindeer

Olive thinks she's a reindeer and so she heads to the North Pole to join Santa and his team.  The illustrations are precious and the story is fun.  My kids are going to LOVE this one :)

Room for a Little One is so sweet.  It starts with a gentle ox who makes room for an animal smaller than him.  That animal in turn makes room for someone else and so on and so on until they make room for the donkey carrying Mary

The illustrations are amazing and the story is so sweet.

The Sweet Smell of Christmas reminded me so much of a book that I had when I was little.  It's scratch and sniff and the scents are actually really great.

Gingerbread, apple pie, fir tree, etc.  I adore this book!

I have a feeling that  How to Catch an Elf is going to be my boys new favorite Christmas book.  In the book it's Christmas Eve and the author talks about all different ways to catch an elf.  They're funny and clever and I can't wait to talk to my kids about how they would catch an elf on Christmas Eve.

I'd love to know what your family's favorite Christmas books are and don't forget that you can check out my original post with LOTS of recommendations   HERE.

  2. My daughter and I both love The Sweet Smell of Christmas. Got it last year. It also reminded me of a book I had as a kid, too!

  3. Room for a Little One would make a great gift for a new big brother or sister too! I just did my Thanksgiving children's book favorites on my blog yesterday! What better way to spend quality time with our children than with a great book?! Happy reading!

  4. I love Olive the Other Reindeer and the movie is pretty cute too. One of my favorite Christmas books is Santa's Stuck. My kindergarteners love this and so do my kids. I am going to have to get How to Catch and Elf.

  5. Two years ago I started the tradition of reading The Legend of Saint Nicholas to my girls. We also love Tallulah’s Nutcracker, Christmas Lights and A Pirate’s Night Before Christmas. The Sweet Smell of Christmas looks great! I’ll have to add it to our collection.

    1. I recently thought of another favorite as we gear up for the holiday: The Christmas Cookie Sprinkle Snitcher!

  7. I just wanted to share one of our favorite Christmas traditions that I looked forward to every year as a kid. Leading up to December 1, my mom would wrap 24 Christmas books and each night in December we would unwrap one and read it together as a family. On Christmas Eve, we would unwrap The Night Beofre Christmas and read it before we went to bed. I’m in my 20’s now and don’t have kids yet but this is still my favorite traditions and I can’t wait to do this with my own kids some day!

  8. We have a huge tub of holiday/seasonal books and I love getting them out and filling our book basket throughout the year. It's like visiting old friends to sit with books we've read year after year with each of the boys. Thanks for sharing these!

  9. We also unwrap books each night leading up to Christmas like another commenter. We have The Sweet Smell of Christmas but it is so well-loved that the scents are gone! It may be time to buy a new copy!

  10. Andrea, I love your blog 99% of the time (long-time lurker, rarely comment.) Your creativity and intentionality in raising your children while balancing a fulfilling career is awesome. But as someone who seems to be trying to raise your kids as engaged and community-conscious - why no mention of today's midterm elections on your blog or IG? No insights on how to make such an important part of our democracy relevant and relatable to your kids? Seems like an oversight in this climate, where civic engagement is of huge importance. Respectfully, I think you (and many of your fellow "mom"/lifestyle bloggers) missed the boat on this one.

    1. I actually believe she is quite smart to not get into the politics on her blog..we get it everywhere else. This is why she is a breath of fresh air!!

  11. I agree...anything that doesn't mention politics is a refreshing read these days. 😊 And I love Christmas books! One of my favorites is "The Crippled Lamb" by Max Lucado...the Christmas story through the eyes of the shepherds and animals. I read it to my little brothers for years, and now I'm excited to read it to my son!

  13. Fun list! We bought Olive the Other Reindeer book for my daughter Olive and she's a huge fan. Excited to check out your other favorites. Thanks for sharing! We keep a basket of Christmas books out all season and read several every day. I try to add a couple new ones to our Christmas library every year.
