Costco HELP!

Okay, y'all!  I've been a Sam's club member since Mason was a baby and we realized that the formula there was about 1/2 the cost of anywhere else.   That discount combined with the diaper prices made our membership totally worth it but since we don't need diapers or formula anymore and a brand new Costco just opened up WAY closer to us than Sam's we're making the switch!

All this to say... I'm a total Costco newbie (I think I've been to a Costco one time) and want to know what you love and what I need to check out when I go this week because...

... and...

I know lots of y'all shop at Costco so PRETTY PLEASE leave me your best recommendations in the comments below!

Thanks in advance, friends!!!

  1. The uncooked tortillas! You will never go back to regular ones. It takes taco nights to a whole new level. haha

  4. I'm recently obsessed with Costco (thank you McKinney for finally getting one!!)!

  5. I don't have a costco membership, but my parents do! Some of the things I love that she has gotten for me include the dark chocolate sea salt caramels, and tomato basil soup. They have some good deals on cereals, too! My mom also raves about their salmon.

  6. If any of you take Zyrtec, buy their Kirkland brand of it. That alone pays for the cost of the membership. Other favorites are berries, apples, eggs, cheese, ground beef, chicken. I buy organic in those items and you can’t beat their prices. What I like so much about Costco is the quality of their food compared to BJs or Sams.

  7. My mother in law buys their tortilla chips and water. Also, they have really great fruit....someone mentioned the allergy medicine already. Of course, you can sample while there and buy something if you like it. She does that a lot.

  9. My favorite place!! I'm sure I'll leave off a ton, but off the top of my head...
Parmesan crisps, rotisserie chicken, filet migon (it's the best), eggs, bread, toilet paper, paper towels (Kirkland brand), maple syrup, fit crunch protein bars, cilantro rice shrimp bowls, bananas, kale salad, books, kids snacks ( I always wait for certain ones to go on sale), they have great toys at Christmas! Seeds of change rice/quinoa mix, Kirkland brand chicken strips in refrigerated section, fancy cheeses, frozen broccoli, yogurt, frozen pizza, their sheet cakes are the best and so cheap! pimento cheese, individual guac cups, jacks salsa, trash bags... the list goes on! haha.. have fun. just don't go on Saturday or Sunday! unless you are there when they open.

    1. yes! I'd recommend almost all of the same things. The rotisserie chicken can't be beat, and my kids loooove the seeds of change quinoa/brown rice packs.

  11. We like their chicken salad, muffins from bakery, tortilla chips, pork chops, and their rotisserie chicken are much bigger than Kroger's. We also like their ready made dinners that are next to the meats in the refrigerated cases for easy dinner. Also their bakery cakes are a staple at parties! Sooo good! We often will shop on a weeknight when it's less crowded and grab a quick dinner from the food court.

  12. Hands down rhthe cheapest place to buy milk. If you need sheet cakes for anything they’re cheap and yummy! My husband loves the Kirkland flavored water. We get the organic strawberry spread pretty regularly.

    ReplyDelete
  13. The ready to bake chicken Alfredo in the meat section......heavenly. Love their huge tub of pesto. My kiddo loves the $1.50 hot dog (huge) and drink combo. I also love their thighs and breasts that are packages in quantities if 4. Totally saves having to freezer bag a huge package of meat!

    1. We've had the chicken alfredo for dinner and lunches this back to school week. Such a great deal!

  14. I really like their organic ground beef. It comes in a three pack that I just stick in my freezer for when I need it. I also like to buy the Aidells chicken apple sausage, paper towels, and la croix

    ReplyDelete
  15. Kirkland brand is very good, we get paper towels, toilet paper, Kleenex , Detergent and bottled water. Also contacts, glasses, photos printed, raybans, butter, rotisserie chicken already off the bone for homemade soup, and so much more! We love Costco!

    ReplyDelete
  16. I don’t currently have a membership
But I loved: salmon, bagged kale superfood salad, rotisserie chicken, paper towels, bottled water

    ReplyDelete
  17. Yes for the chickens. I will freeze it whole to use as a quick work night meal. I shop there weekly for produce for the selection, quality and freshness.
Kirkland brand items are amazing: papergoods, OTC medicines are good quality and a good price. I think the clothing selection is another good find. Happy shopping!

    ReplyDelete
  18. Their Fig Bars are AMAZING (and kids like them), vanilla extract, non-stick cooking spray is a steal, tortilla chips, water, Turkey Spinach Lasagna ($12 and its HUGE). I could go on and on!

    ReplyDelete
  19. Here are the things i always buy at Costco:
    Wild Alaskan salmon
    Mochi ice cream
    Toilet paper
    Kleenex
    Paper towels
    Disposable coffee cups
    Paper plates
    Dishwasher tabs
    Clorox wipes
    Trash bags
    Water
    Gatorade
    Mini naan bread
    Green tea (the best!)
Books (such good prices for individual or book collections!)
    Advil
    Protein drinks
Those are just the top things I can think of. I’m sure I left many things out! There are always cute household items that I can’t pass up either...

  20. Costco brand Zytec pays for the membership. Also, they run great specials on contact lenses and glasses several times a year. Kirkland batteries are a great deal. Honestly, the Kirkland brand is phenomenal, often better than "name brand" items ... food or non-food.

Obviously, the rotisserie chicken is a must buy (at least once). We also enjoy the pinwheel sandwiches, whole bean vanilla, vanilla extract, salsa, homemade granola, SHEET CAKES, and the quality of their meat is much better than I can get at my local grocery.

I love Costco almost as much as Trader Joe's. LOL

    ReplyDelete
  21. We buy their beef filets, boneless/skinless chicken breasts and bag of broccoli florets, as well as ALL the paper products (paper towels, tissues, paper plates, toilet paper). We also buy a case of LaCroix for me and my husband really likes the Kirkland sparkling water that comes in a case of plastic bottles. He normally doesn't like sparkling water AT ALL, but he says the Kirkland brand tastes like soda without all the calories and sugar!

  22. Their spinach jalapeno dip is delicious! Also, they have great fish sticks!

  25. Everything Kirkland Brand I have ever had is great! Toilet paper, paper towels, trash bags, coffee, dishwasher tabs, bottled water... and their Sheet Cakes are amazing!!! Snacks, meds/health/beauty and fruit sections are awesome - fruit is always really fresh. Great deals on meat if you don't mind buying in bulk and freezing. My husband and I also just bought fans for our new house, and my family has ordered a number of household items from their website (vacuums, coffee makers, TV's). I really do think they have great prices!

    ReplyDelete
  26. I am a huge Costco fan! Their new acai bowls at the food court are amaz. In terms of what I always buy there:
    -Nuts
    -Vitamins
    -Hummus
    -Coffee
    -Paper Towels
    -Toilet Paper
    -Frozen Pizzas
    -Frozen Berries
    -Salsa
    -berries
    -avocados
    -la croix
I recently discovered some non-grocery items there that I've been loving like food storage containers, sheets, and towels. Yay Costco!

  27. These meme's are cracking me up. We have always gone to Sam's club because it closest to our house but I may just have to go check out Costco. Everybody always says it's so much better especially there fruit. Sam's to me has been a disappointment lately.

  28. The salsa in the refrigerated section is the best I've ever tasted. I stood at the kitchen counter and ate it with tortilla chips as soon as i got home - lol.
I also buy their tp, laundry detergent, Cascade, and trash bags. Their bakery cakes are very good, too.

  29. Costco takes all the meat off of their day old rotisserie chickens and sells it in 2.5lb bags. It is a lifesaver for me (I’m a teacher too). I can come home and have chicken tacos, chicken spaghetti, chicken pot pie, etc..whipped up in no time. I also love their hard boiled eggs for quick breakfasts. If you like la croix, try spindrift. It’s made with real fruit juice instead of artificial flavoring and it tastes so much better. If you’re a wine drinker, the Costco brand Sauvignon Blanc is as good as Kim Crawford but it’s only $6.99.

  30. So much stuff: toilet paper, paper towels, contact solution, trash bags, laundry detergent, dishwasher detergent, snacks for kids, rotisserie chicken, frozen fruit for smoothies, greek yogurt, cheese, their pesto is amazing (in the prepared food section), salsa, clothes, books, birthday cakes, clorox wipes, basically everything! and you can return anything, even if already opened.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Rotisserie chicken (you can buy just the meat -- not the whole chicken, although that's great too) and sweet potato crackers are a staple in our house.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I buy everything at Costco. Here goes: clothes (yes especially for the kids, jeans, tops, jackets), cereal, toilet paper, biunty rolls, white vinegar, baking powder, ghiardelli brownie mix (the best), protein bars, milk, organic eggs, yogurt, rotisserie chicken, cheeses (goat, cheddar, cream, parmesan, cottage), kerrygold butter (love that), whipped cream, fish sticks, frozen veges, chicken nuggest, haggen Das ice cream bars, trash bags, laundry soap, dishwasher soap, dog food, bread, dog treats, peanut butter, even furniture. My list goes on and on and on :)

    ReplyDelete
  33. We have a friend that loves it! His dad even bought his car from Costco! We are moving to Texas soon and will have one super close to our house! Reading these comments for sure!

    ReplyDelete
  34. We get our toilet paper, paper towels, bottled water, etc from there. They have yummy bagged salads, their salmon with pesto is delicious, cheap pizzas for a Friday night or a party and if you like hot dogs then hit up their food court. With 3 little ones I think you’ll be stopping at Costco as often as you go to Trader Joe’s!

    ReplyDelete
  35. I feel like it’s more of “what not to buy at Costco!” I buy it all! From toilet paper to steak! Especially with kiddos! My mom does price checking for all major grocery stores, and you just can’t beat the quantity vs price! Have fun! It’s dangerous in there!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Every time we go I buy premier protein shakes, hummus, fruit, pretzel snaps. Things we also love are the bacon, guacamole, tortilla chips, the clothes (seriously - you can check online too for more options that ship free.).

    ReplyDelete
  37. I haven't ordered them yet, but their canvas prints are WAY cheaper than the place you normally use. The amount of the savings is probably worth checking out to see if their quality is as good. But since the rest of their products are such great quality, I would think their canvas photo prints would be no different.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Spinach Artichoke dip (get some French bread and top with dip....broil for a DELICIOUS app!)
    Kirkland Claritan D
Chicken salad with cranberries (in big tub, not cups)
    Chicken melts
Pork loin (make tons in crockpot and freeze for easy weeknight dinners!)
    Deli pizzas
    Dried snap peas
    Apple pie

    ReplyDelete
  39. They have hands down the best rotisserie chickens and their trail mix is amazing and at an amazing price! I also buy razor blades there for way cheaper than anywhere else. You can find good deals on books and clothes for kids.

    ReplyDelete
  40. The paper towels and toilet paper by Kirkland are hands down the best! We also love the produce- berries, spinach, greens, seasonal fruit, etc. I agree with everyone who said milk, eggs, HUMMUS, guac, and beef, chicken and salmon. We have also purchased Stoneybrook organic gogurts, baby bell cheeses, and veggie straws all in bulk for lunches. The kids clothes esp the addias sets for boys are incredibly priced and great quality. The cakes and muffins (and $5.99 giant Pumpkin pie!) from the bakery are delicious. If your Costco carries it, get their ready made white mac n cheese from the deli- it's scrumptious!!!

    ReplyDelete
  41. I love their Christmas toy "bundles!" Last year I scored an American Girl Bitty Baby set for my daughter and it was such a good deal!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Hannah Organic Red Pepper Hummus with cucumbers is my most favorite lunch EVER! Also love their quinoa salad, string cheese, Kirkland applesauce pouches and a great place to buy Lara bars in bulk!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Nothing beats Kirkland brand paper towel, toilet paper, laundry soap, etc! I personally have never had anything bad that is Kirkland brand. Hands down the best price on milk around and my kids prefer it over any other brand that we buy. The meat selection is wonderful and better than our local store. Happy shopping!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Ahhh love Costco so much!!!
Here’s what I love to get:
    Mini Naan Bread
    Rotisserie chicken
Their chicken wings that are already seasoned!
    Ground beef
Any of there pre made salads
    Clorox wipes
    Uncrustables
    Hummus
    Muffins from the bakery section
And we always get our fruits and veggies form there!! Always fresh and a good price!

    ReplyDelete
  45. -Sabra Hummus
-Palmetto pimento cheese (regular & jalepeno)
    -milk
-Kale salad in the produce section is SO good
    -kirkland frozen cheese pizzas
    -pita chips

I could eat the basil pesto with a spoon 😍.

The kirkland plastic wrap is my favorite because of the easy cutting strip.

We are OBSESSED with their bed sheets!! They are so comfy!

    ReplyDelete
  46. We don’t have the storage space to really take advantage of our membership, but I do love the variety of books and gifts for holiday!

    ReplyDelete
  47. The Mango salsa! Chicken, artichoke jalepeno dip, bread, cheese sticks, yogurts, lunch stuff...like bars, fruit snacks, etc. Their fresh flowers are awesome too! In the summer if yours has the garden area...all the flowers and plants! Mine had fiddle leaf figs last year. Gas if they have pumps. In CA Costco gas saves everyone from paying $4 a galloon elsewhere.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Oh and sheets! They get the best sheets!

    ReplyDelete
  49. I'm obsessed with Costco. In fact, I basically only shop there now (yes I spend more, but it makes shopping fun so let's go with it). Def. look at the coupon book when it comes in the mail, if you need to go and things are about to be on sale, you can buy them anyway and bring the receipt back when they go on sale to get the difference in pricing back to you. First stop, always check out the clothing. Great sales and prices on things for the kiddos (hello jackets, PJs, socks, etc) and adults. The sheets and towels are great quality esp. when on sale. I get produce like strawberries, blueberries, grapes, tomatoes, seedless cucumbers, peppers, lettuce, zucchini, beans, plums, peaches (my kids love fruit). You can't beat prices on bagels, rolls, bread. I always pick up the grass fed beef (freezes well), organic chicken, rotisserie chicken, ribs, steak, flank steak, salmon, almond milk, chicken apple sausage, WINE (prosecco for life), eggs, tp, paper towel, ziplock bags, paper plates, avocado mash (little containers- great for toast or even for tacos), salsa, chips, frozen organic broccoli, frozen beans, frozen vege burgers, frozen cauliflower pizza (seriously so good), frozen fruit for smoothies, cheese, apple pouches, Rice packets for easy dinner sides, classico pasta sauce, alfredo sauce, SPICES (such big quantities for low prices), Salad topper mix, greek dressing, Naan bread (great for pizzas), PB, Jelly, snacks, vitamins. Writing it out, I guess I have a problem lol. Go without kids to fully enjoy your experience and to get used to the store offerings if you can!

  50. Don't forget to try their Gluten Free chicken nuggets - I'm not gluten free but these are my favorite nuggets and they are so easy. Great on salads or for kids. I also buy my boneless chicken breasts there and then freeze them in smaller packages. Other things: Kirkland toilet paper, Duracell batteries (especially when they are on coupon), kettle chips, Acai bowl blend, Tide detergent (especially on coupon), and check out their photo prices (I've printed a number of photos there and it's cheaper than other places here in Iowa).

    ReplyDelete
  51. Oh! and their pesto and feta cheese are always staples in my fridge.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Pretty much anything Kirkland brand is awesome!!!! $2.00 for a HUGE case of water....the rotisserie chickens are huge!!....just be prepared for that first trip. The first trip is pretty expensive since you are getting started. But, after that the price evens out! we LOVE LOVE LOVE Costco! We also already got our Halloween costumes there. Great selection.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Bagged salad kits- meditteranean and caesar
    sheet cakes
    pumpkin pie!!!
    rotisserie chicken
    italian chicken sausages
turkey tortilla roll-ups- good for school lunches or a party
    stuffed peppers
this really would be easier to tell you what not to buy!! With five people in your family, I imagine you keep a lot of food in your house!

    ReplyDelete
  54. I love the kirkland brand makeup removing face wipes. Oh, and a big bag of pecans to make lots of pecan pies all fall.

    ReplyDelete
  55. I love Costco! Switch your prescriptions there, it is so much cheaper. For instance, Claritin D is $4.49 instead of $14 for generic elsewhere. They also carry dog prescriptions for a great price. Their Kirkland dog food is high quality and grain free. Fresh plants are another great deal. They have gorgeous mums for fall and fresh wreaths for Christmas.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Costco Travel for vacation packages and rental cars. Their Kirkland brand is great and we have gotten everything from outdoor lights to luggage. I always check out their clothing and shoe section because you never know what you might find like Uggs, Frye boots, Columbia and Patagonia.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Costco Kirkland frozen pizzas are the best!! You get four frozen thin crust pepperoni pizzas for 11.99. Such a good deal & they taste amazing!! We probably will never order pizza for delivery again, and will eat these and go out to our fav pizza restaurants. They are that good!!

    ReplyDelete
  58. Their brand of pulled pork (like pre-made and refrigerated and you just microwave) is amazing and I don't even like pork! Artichoke jalapeno dip, and everything else already mentioned!

    ReplyDelete
  59. Oh my gosh, I love Costco (and you've given me an idea for a great blog post!) Some things are regional. I saw someone mention Palmetto Pimento Cheese, we don't have that in CA and I so wish we did.
    The Kirkland Pesto is great.
They have the best rotisserie chickens.
    Frozen Atlantic Salmon
    Frozen 31-40 raw shrimp
    (Actually any frozen seafood)
    Produce
    K-Cups
    Nuts
    Pirate Booty
    Coconut Clusters
    Yogurt
    Ziploc Bags
    Aidells Chicken Apple Sausage
    Sheet Cakes
    and so much more😉
    Good luck and have fun!

    ReplyDelete
  60. We love Costco and pretty much buy everything everyone else said lol. I will mention that whenever we need to book a rental car we go through Costco, and they also have great travel deals.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Yes!!!!! Anything else is just no good!

    ReplyDelete
  62. I buy almost everything at Costco! Toilet paper, milk, bread eggs, lunch meat, bananas, strawberries, birthday cakes etc... pretty much Costco is my first stop and then I hit the grocery store for a few things. I LOVE their garlic Parmesan bread, and it freezes perfectly! Turkey bacon and chicken meatballs are our faves! Seriously, I have yet to be disappointed from anything there 😂! I have 2 within 10 minutes! My only complaint about Costco is they don’t open until 10 am. I almost always buy a rotisserie chicken and croissants. We have chicken sandwiches one night and chicken salad sandwiches the next night.

    ReplyDelete
  63. First it's baffling to me you are just getting one, there are 4 within 15 minutes of my house! Your life is changed! We get everything there, pretty much all of the things mentioned. If they have Beechers Macaroni and Cheese in the frozen prepared food get it! Some non food items we love are towels, their beach towels are the best! Their furniture and home goods are excellent quality. Socks and light bulbs. Shampoo, Pantene in bulk with a pump! We found we like Kirkland brand too. One rule we have since it can be tempting to get it all is we get only one "treat" per big shopping trip. And check out their website, free shipping and sometimes you find stuff not in the store.

    ReplyDelete
  64. COSTCO IS THE BEST. Their organic tortilla chips and Kirkland salsa can't be beat, their produce is usually incredible, sheet cakes are $18.99 (and serve 48), bread, paper products are a good deal, Craisins, cereal, and so much more. Happy Costco shopping!

  65. Oh My - We go to Costco about 2-3 times a week- as a matter of fact we were there last night and picked up some clothes, goldfish and hello pandas because they are on sale till 9/2, as well as new prescription glasses for the kids (saving in their optical is through the roof), olive oil, and drumsticks- ice cream (they are on sale too!) I love COSTCO EVERYTHING....but reading through the comments - I am making a list to go back tonight! LOL

    ReplyDelete
  66. OMG - I actually just recently found out that the car my husband gave me for Christmas was purchased at a HUGE discount using our Costco membership too! LOL I didn't believe it at first - but it is soooo true!

    ReplyDelete
  67. First stop should be to get yourself a deep freezer if you don't already have one! You will need one! Looks like most of what we buy has been mentioned elsewhere BUT, what I have not seen mentioned by the other is the chicken FLAUTAS! SOOO GOOD! We love them! And they are a quick and easy dinner when time is short. I am talking about the ones in the refrigerated section, not the frozen taquitos. They come in one container with 2 packages (8 in each so 16 total). Also, I know the rotissary chicken has been mentioned several times but I want to say, not only is it a GREAT deal but it is by FAR the best tasting rotissary chicken I have ever had from a grocery store. We are hooked! The skin is the best part! But, I buy several at a time and cut them up and throw them in the freezer to have on hand as needed for any dish that requires chicken (chicken pot pie, soup, poppy seed casserole etc.). Also, their Nearly Naked popcorn comes in an ENORMOUS bag, is a pretty healthy snack and is very good! Happy Costcoing! Let us know what you think!

    ReplyDelete
  68. Fruit, milk, fresh produce, cheese, kirkland paper products, steak, pork tenderloin, books, cat food, mums during the fall and live greenery at christmas. Costco is my favorite shopping experience. Oh, and their nut selection is great. You'll love it!

    ReplyDelete
  69. Pretty much everything was mentioned, so the only thing I’ll add is their organic selections keep growing. Even though I’ve been shopping there for years and I know all of my favorite things, I still walk around and look at all of the aisles every couple months. Actually, two things I didn’t see... gluten free almond flour crackers. Lots of protein so they’re a great afternoon snack or addition to a “little bits of lots of things” meal. And their cheesecake is so so so good!
