Back to School Brinner 2018

Sunday night we had our annual back-to-school brinner... one of my very favorite nights of the year.

The morning of the first day of school is one of the busiest, earliest mornings we have and it isn't really conducive to having a special breakfast together (we left our house at 6:55 am!) so we move the special breakfast to the night before :)

I keep it simple but do like to make it look special and this year I used  this blue check runner and  these gingham napkins to set the tone.

The green apples are faux and the red ones are real and from our fruit basket :)

A few years ago I bought 5 of the cheap (10 cents, I think) folders with brads and use them as placemats.  It's my favorite part!

The cookies I ordered from Say Anything Bakery and they came blank and with a food safe marker to write on them.  I made one for each of our kids and then wrote a few for friends and we dropped them off as "Back-To-School Eve" treats.

The little chalkboard clips were 4/$1 in the dollar aisle at Target.

We keep the food really simple...  Shay's Ultimate Sausage Balls (a double batch so that we have them for an easy breakfast option during the first week), berries, yogurt and cinnamon rolls.  The kids actually opted to eat the cinnamon rolls instead of their cookies and saved the cookies for after the first day.  I can't blame them because holy icing, batman.

During the dinner we say a special prayer for each of the kids, their teachers, classmates and our school.  We talk about the highlights of summer and what fun things are coming up during the school year.  We talk about the importance of being kind and how hard the first day of school might be for someone who's new.  It's just a sweet time of conversation.

Someone mentioned on my Instagram post about this dinner that they do something similar and she made a movie of their whole summer that they watched after - HOW AWESOME IS THAT?!?!

I hope you found an idea or two to add to your back-to-school traditions!  Happy Tuesday, friends!!!
