Visual Processing - 3 month update

Back in February I shared about Mason's visual processing disorder diagnosis - what led us to testing,  what that testing looked like and laid out a bit of the plan that he would be embarking on.

He got his glasses in February and started vision therapy in March and has made so much progress.

He's had some great accomplishments over the past couple of months... reading to Griffin's class as the mystery reader, asking to read after bedtime, reading ALL The road signs, etc. but we didn't realize how much progress he's made until we got these testing results last week...

In September he was reading at a 4th month of Kindergarten level, in February he was reading at a first month of first grade level and as of May 8th he was reading at a first month of second grade level!!!

This is an answer to prayer on so many levels and was the reassurance that Dave and I needed that we had made the right choice pursuing a diagnosis and therapy.  It was a big commitment of time and money without any guarantees of improvement but we trusted the doctor and are so glad we did.

The novelty of VT has worn off a bit over the weeks (as we expected) and there are nights when Mason's definitely not excited about doing the exercises with us - but he's pushed through and reaping the reward of all of that hard work.

He's completed 10 sessions of therapy and was reevaluated earlier this month.  He's made marked improvement in several areas of his deficits and is continuing with more sessions through the summer.

We couldn't have asked for a better ending of the school year for Mason and are so excited about having him more than ready for second grade.  He's feeling confident and capable and it looks good on him :)

PS - HUUUUGE shoutout and thank you to Mason's teacher who recognized his symptoms early on in the year and encouraged us to seek intervention for him.
