Weekend Recap - Harvest Party Edition

Happy Monday, friends! This weekend was a GREAT one - one filled with so much fun that you wish you had an extra day ;)

Friday was a LOOOONG day.  I had parent-teahcer conferences all day (first one at 7:50 last one at 2:30... pretty much 2 every 30 minutes the entire day including three for my own kids) and the kids were at ESS all day and by the time we got home we were BEAT.  griffin was pretty beside herself (I think she tripped or something on the way in the house) and so I dropped by bag, scooped her up in my lap and she was asleep within seconds.  Seriously.

Mason was at ESS in the morning, but his friends picked him up in the afternoon for a trip to the pumpkin patch.

Saturday morning we watched Mason play football and had a blast cheering him on despite the drizzle.

There comes number 25!!!

And then this :)

Saturday afternoon Mason had his friends come over and we played HARD for a solid four hours.  We have a big bin of dress-up clothes and they always love to get in there and play out front.

After their friends went home we ate dinner, showered, played games and snuggled up with a movie.  We picked up around the house and tried to head to bed at a reasonable time :)

Do you ever look at your kids and wonder, "where did my babies go?".  I had one of those moments yesterday as they all got themselves unbuckled and out of the car and were walking in to church independently.  As much as I miss snuggling my little babies I am LOVING school-age :)  LOVING IT!

Sunday evening we had our annual Sunday School Harvest Party and it is one of my absolute favorite nights of the year.  We've been part of our class for 12 years and for as long as I can remember we've gotten together on a Sunday night in October and enjoyed costumes, company and crock pots.  There used to be like 2 babies and we met in someone's backyard around a fire pit so the pole barn and bounce house is a bit different than what the party used to look like ;)

Dave and I put the socials together for our class and so we were there early to get everything set up and meet the bounce house company and Mason found a grasshopper.  He is definitely my "big kid" and he's always finding creatures to show us!

Griffin was Elena of Avalor and was totally having a moment with her scepter and clip-on earrings :)

Luke was a death trooper and was making the most of his nunchucks that he found in the van since he left his light saber at home.  Mason was NOT interested in an individual picture so he (and his grasshopper) were doing their own thing :)

Can't.  Even.

Friends started arriving and making use of the games that we set up.  This was a new addition this year and was so much fun!

Three of the cutest princess I know!

I loved all the princesses but my FAVORITE costume of the night was Meagan's daughter Sadie who came as her mommy.  I mean - cutest costume ever!

We decided to take our group picture early this year and believe it or not we were missing about 10 kids when we snapped this.  I love these kiddos and ADORE their parents!

As if the cute costumes and great company wasn't enough the FOOD!!!  Crock pot after crock pot of soups, chilis, dips, etc.  SO GOOD!

Y'all.  these girls.

I'm fairly certain they held hands for about 95% of the time we were there :)

The just "get" each other!

It was a GORGEOUS night and we couldn't have asked for better weather.

This about sums up how we all felt at the end of the evening (yes... that's a PB&J in her hand).

It was such a great weekend and I'm forever grateful for the relationships that we've built and fostered through our church group.  Dave and I got married in December of 2005 and hesitantly joined a "young marrieds without kids" class shortly after that and I can't even begin to tell you the blessings that being part of that class has brought.

I know it sounds cliche, but we truly do "do life" with these friends and I can't imagine doing life without them.  I will say that relationships are what you put into them... we've invested our time and energy into our class and in turn have reaped tremendous rewards from that.  If you're not part of a small group (or a church at all!) I can't encourage you enough to put yourself out there a bit and try it.

Happy Monday, friends!

  2. Those are the cutest princesses!

I love you have such as amazing small group! It means my heart happy and I am a bit envious at the same time to be honest. We move A LOT due to my husband's job and these relationships just don't come that easily. You are right about pouring into them more. It is hard to take that first step.
