Colorado - Days 1 and 2

We're back in town and are already reminiscing about our trip to Colorado last week.  We were so excited to escape the heat and head to the mountains!  We loaded up Sunday morning and headed off to Amarillo.

After a quick stop for a bite to eat in Vernon, TX our van looked a lot like this...

... we checked into the hotel, headed to dinner and then made our way to Cadillac Ranch.

We remembered to bring the spray paint this time and the kids all got to take a turn...

We met some SWEET dogs...

... climbed a bit...

... grabbed a couple of last pics and headed back to the hotel to swim.

The feeling is mutual! :)

Monday morning we got back in the car bright and early and set off for Vail.  It was an 8-hour drive and the kids did so well!!!!  We watched movies, had iPad time, read books, did stickers and annoyed each other :)

We sang songs, dance partied, pulled over a couple of times to stretch our legs and had fun watching the scenery turn from totally flat to snow-covered mountains.

We crossed into Colorado (through a brief drive through New Mexico) right before lunch...

.... and then after some lunch we drove a few more hours to Garden of the Gods park in Colorado Springs.

It was a quick stop because the kids were a tad bit over it, but the views were incredible!

And they had this really cool dinosaur mural half on the floor half on the wall :)

After a few more hours in the car and a stop for groceries we arrived at our house in Vail!!!

We rented a house (technically the bottom floor apartment of a home) right along Gore Creek in between Vail Village and Lionshead.  It was an AMAZING location and we could not have been happier about it.  We enjoyed our first dinner out on the deck and then walked into Vail Village to grab some ice cream.

"Look mom... sweatshirts!!!"

If you've ever lived in Dallas during the summer then you'll understand our sheer joy about layering during the summer.  I can totally deal with a hot day if it starts and ends cool.... unfortunately a lot of nights in Dallas don't dip below 80 so you never get that "reprieve" from the heat.

We walked into the village and were immediately greeted by a hummingbird!  We watched him flit around for a few minutes before we made our way to the sundae shop.

We had some freshly made cookie dough ice cream and sat on the rocks to enjoy it.

It doesn't get a whole lot better than this!

After ice cream the kids joined in a pickup soccer game that was happening in the square...

.... and then we walked back to the house for some games on the porch.

I tried to make a point of taking more video this trip (because is there anything better than home movies?!?!) and am sharing the little video I put together for our trip out to CO and first night there...

I'll be sharing the details of what we did the rest of the trip as well as where we stayed in a few upcoming posts.  If you have any specific questions please don't hesitate to leave them in the comments!

Happy Wednesday, friends!!!
