Sloppy Joe Pie

Hey, Friends!  Today I'm sharing a recipe that is pretty much guaranteed to give me a gold star from Dave... sloppy joe pie!  Dave LOVES a sloppy joe so when I ran across this recipe for sloppy joe pie I knew it was something that would make him SUPER happy!

- Here's What You'll Need -
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 can sloppy joe sauce
- chopped onion
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 cup Bisquick
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 egg

- Step 1 -
Brown the meat with the onion (as much as you like... I used about half an onion) and stir in the sloppy joe sauce.  Heat through.

- Step 2 -
Pour the meat mixture into a baking dish (mine is about 9" I believe) and sprinkle the cheese on top.

- Step 3 -
Mix 1 cup Bisquick with 1/2 cup milk and 1 egg and pour on top.

Note - for whatever reason after I poured this on top it didn't "seem" like enough.... so I made another batch of topping mix and poured it on as well.  In the end the original amount PROBABLY would have sufficed, but my kids have never shied away from a carb so it worked :)  I think you'd be fine either way!

- Step 4 -
Bake at 400 degrees for about 20 minutes.  Allow to cool for a couple of minutes and then serve hot!

So, like I said my biscuit layer was DOUBLE what the original recipe called for... but nobody at my house complained and I didn't have to adjust the cooking time at all.  At first I thought it MIGHT be a bit doughy where the biscuit met the cheese, but that was, in fact, just melted cheese.  #crisisaverted

This was simple, hearty and something that my kids would eat any day of the week.  And BONUS.... I had all the ingredients on hand.

If you try out this recipe (or any of the recipes I've shared!) I'd love to hear what you think!!!

  2. I make something similar, only I use taco seasoning, and add the cheese on top of the bisquik mix. So yummy. It's my husband's favorite as well.

  5. That sloppy joe pie looks so yummy! I think I'm going to store this recipe and save it for when we are deathly hungry and have no idea what to cook, I mean but that never happens ;)

  7. Growing up, my mom made up a recipe that is super similar to this to make our sloppy joe leftovers stretch a little further. But instead of Bisquick, she mixed up a packet of cornbread mix and stirred a can of corn in with it. I don't think she did cheese, but either way would be good. We called it Corny Joe, which as a kid, I thought was hilarious.

  8. Oh snap, this sounds SO good! We love all of Shay's different variations of sloppy Joe's in our house, so we will have to try this one with the bisquick on the top. You cannot go wrong with Bisquick!

  9. Yuuuum!! I wonder if you could use crescents or biscuits instead of bisquick?
