Friday Favorites - Hidden Figures Edition

Happy Friday, Friends!!!

Why do short school weeks feel so long?!?!?! Just me???  Maybe it's the extra weekend day to sleep in, maybe it's the extra "squirrliness" of the kids, who knows.  But TGIF!

Erika, Narci and I are sharing our Friday Favorites and we'd love for you to join in.  All you have to do is grab our graphic, link back ton one (or all!) of us and share a post packed with your favorites in the link section at the bottom of the post.

Griffin got an Elsa costume over a year ago and she recently rediscovered it and has worn it non-stop.  Having our very own Elsa around the house is my FAVORITE :)

I talked about the Dyson Stick vacuum on my Want, Need, Wear, Read post and y'all.... I got it for Christmas and can't stop using it. HOW ON EARTH did I live without it??? Dave wasn't totally sold on the idea of it (I mean.... isn't it just a stupid expensive dust buster???), but he's a total convert and I think he loves it as much as I do (or maybe a bit more).  You're ignoring the chipped paint and overflowing grocery bag holder and focusing on the amazing wall mounted vacuum of my dreams :)

It is soooooo easy to use, is cordless (YESSSSS!!!) and is just as powerful as our full-size Dyson vacuum.  We reach for it constantly for vacuuming under the table, grabbing the dust bunnies that seem to pop up out of nowhere and use it as a dust buster at least a dozen times a day.

It sucks the crumbs right out of the little crevices in our table which alone makes it worth it.

The ONLY downside is the batter doesn't last long (apparently due to #allthepower), but I can overlook that due to how handy and awesome it is.

If it wasn't obvious from all the gushing above - it's my FAVORITE ;)

Elsa isn't the only character that's been running around our house this week.  We've had these two "ninjas" as well :)  I'd like to add that they were making "ninja faces" and they have lots of costumes but apparently this getup screamed NINJA.

On Monday night Dave and I had a little date night and we went and saw Hidden Figures.  Y'all.  I can't recommend it enough.  I cried.  I cheered (quietly!) and left wondering if these incredible women's stories have gone untold about for all these years what other stories of women like them are have I not heard???  I am trying to find a way to get my classes to the theater to see it it was that good (and totally appropriate!).  If you haven't made plans to see it - you should ASAP!

While we were super excited for a night out, the kids were excited to hang with one of their FAVORITE sitters.  So much so that they hung out like this for 20 minutes waiting for her :)

Next on my list is my new planner!!! I've been using the Day Designer for the past two years (and I ADORE it!), but I decided to switch it up a bit this year and go with THIS ONE.  I'm also switching from an academic year to a traditional year book.

It's a teeny bit wider than the day designer, but not as thick.  It's laid out similarly, but has a band around it which I really like.

I really like seeing the entire year at a glance...

... and the tabs are thick and sturdy.

I also think this is super helpful.

The monthly calendars are in their own section and give you plenty of space to write out your appointments, dates, etc. and see the entire month ahead.  I also really like that all the monthly calendars are in one section so you can flip through them easily without having to tab through the months.

What makes this planner the most different from the day designer is that the daily sections are smaller meaning your whole week is laid out on 2 pages (the day designer has one day per page) and believe it or not I've found it to be plenty of space.  Since I'm at school for most of the day I write a TON in my school organizer and wasn't using all the space in my day designer so this works well for me and I really like that I can see the whole week on a two-page spread.

There is a great pocket page in the back as well ( with pockets on both sides) that I've already made great use of.

I'll keep you posted on what I think throughout the year, but so far I'm loving it!  Getting a fresh new planner is one of my FAVORITE things and I'm excited to fill this one up.

I'm totally a sucker for those human interest stories that get shared all over Facebook and when this one about a special education teacher who included her entire class in her wedding totally made me tear up.  Probably my FAVORITE wedding photo I've ever seen.  Isn't it the absolute best?!?!  so special and sweet!

Y'all know I love a good boho top and this one is my new FAVORITE.  The weight is great, the fit is awesome (flowy, but not HUGE) and the print is perfection.

I've been wearing this polish this week and it happened to match the lavender detail on the cuff.  LOVE!

This text from a coworker this week made me smile ;)  Working with awesome people who love my kids (and take the time to tell me!) is my FAVORITE!

This crazy girl!!! Accessories are her FAVORITE and her spunky side is one of mine :)

LOVE when things like this come home in the kids backpacks - even if Mason forgot to draw his head :)

We've been kicking it old school this week with these...

... do y'all remember playing with them and how they came in that acrylic box???  Pretty sure we had sets of these when I was growing up.  A teacher friend of mine gave me several and we love going through them in the evenings before bed.

This is definitely a paraphrased version of the original verse - but the sentiment spoke straight to me this week and was a favorite of mine to read and reread and then read again.  Nothing wrong with a few (or a lot) of tears and knowing that God knows our hearts without us having to actually articulate anything is such a blessing and comfort.

This weekend we have basketball and plans to take the kids to the lake for the maiden voyage on the boat.  Well... their maiden voyage... my dad took it out last weekend but they are SO PUMPED!!!  We're going to cruise around the lake, feed the ducks, roast hot dogs over a fire and enjoy some time with each other.

I hope you all had a wonderful week and a great weekend planned.

Happy Friday, Friends!

    1. I think they might be a little young - but it also just depends on what kind of conversations you've had at home. We talked A LOT about civil rights and how unequal things were with Mason a few weeks ago (after Luke came home talking about all that he had learned) so I think he would understand it, but it just depends on the kid.

  16. I got that same exact planner for Christmas from my parents! I love it too! I had wanted something different and this fit the bill. I really like the two-page week section. I used to just use my monthly section but now I use the weekly one. I love the quotes on each week too!

  17. You have some great favorites this week! My favorite is that you and Dave got out for a date night:). Hidden Figures is definitely on my list to see and when did GG's hair get so long? She (and Luke and Mason) are precious. Happy Weekend, Andrea!

  18. LOVE my Dyson stick vac...battery does last longer if it isn't on MAX mode (sometimes my kids stick it in max mode without me noticing and it dies so much faster). And so want to see that movie!!!

  19. Take your stick vacuum off max power by holding in the max power button until the blue light disappears. The suction is just as strong on the regular power mode.

  20. Brain Quest! I used to love those when I was little! Did you know that Chick-Fil-A sometimes gives out little mini ones in the kids' meals?! They are so stinking cute! Our kids have a whole collection now!

  21. The sweet teacher in the wedding photo was a friend of mine in college. We were in a lot of education classes together and she was amazing at what she did then, so I can only imagine how much she has influenced those students' lives. She is so sweet and loving. She is definitely shining a bright light into the community.
