Halloween Decorating - Part One :)

With Halloween just around the corner I thought today would be a great time to show y'all a few of the Halloween touches we have out around the house.

Come on in!

The wreath I made last year (or maybe the year before) and the gingham is still my favorite.

The ghost and pumpkin luminaries are from HomeGoods, the pumpkins I found at Trader Joes (they have the BEST pumpkins!) and the chalkboard I used to use to decorate our mantle.

In the living room I just switched out a few things on the shelf to make it festive...

LOVE the little white pumpkins!

The pumpkins with the masks I've had for years as well as the little potion bottles.

The big chunky frames I picked up a few years ago and I need to update the Halloween pictures in them.

The dining room...

The handprint plate we made when the boys were 3.5 and 6 months and it's my absolute favorite Halloween decoration.  ;)

In the family room I added shutters and pumpkins to the mantle...

The shutters I found in the attic in our old house several years ago.  They were part of the wet bar that the old owners had taken down and I love them for Halloween!

The garland was a Homegoods find...

I switched out a few things on the console table as well...

This haunted house lights up at night and the kids get the biggest kick out of it!

The big bumpy pumpkin is from Trader Joes.  I'm a sucker for the bumpy lumpy ones :)

The little countdown calendar on the hall closet door I grabbed at Pottery Barn kids last year...

I took these when it was getting dark... but you get the idea....

There are a few more touches upstairs including the Halloween tree  that the kids have been having a BLAST decorating and some BATS!  But I can't find the photo ornaments I made a few years ago so I'm going to redo them this weekend, take some pictures for a tutorial and share it all next week.  For now there's this...

So... do you decorate for Halloween or are you more of a general "Fall" decorator?

Hope you enjoyed our festive little tour!

  4. I love that you called them "potion bottles". When I was little I was constantly making "potion". Ha! Not sure what that was about. Love all the fall/Halloween decor!

  5. I decorate for fall in late August after the kids go back to school, because I take most of it down (except for a few pumpkins) and put up Halloween on Oct 1. I don't love Halloween decorations, but my kids are obsessed, so I've really gotten into it the last few years. We even have lights on our house like people do for Christmas. And we're not the only ones in our neighborhood! Halloween is a BIG deal here and we get a ton of trick-or-treaters so it's pretty fun. Love that huge owl sign!

  14. I LOVE when you show pictures of your house and how you decorate. It is absolutely beautiful. If you ever get tired of teaching....I think interior design would be a great career change for you.

  15. Next to Christmas, Halloween is my favorite holiday to decorate the house! I copied your idea and printed out pictures of my kids from previous Halloweens to display around the house- such a cute, easy idea! I wish I had more shelf/counter space to put little touches like you do.

  20. Seriously girl I think you may have missed your calling!! Everything looks so cute! I'm sure that you have noted previously and I've missed it but I'd love to know if that little fig tree (?) is real or if you found a great fake one. :) I kill everything!

  21. I do fall because I think it is such a pain to switch out all the time. #lazy
I have several cute Halloween decorations, but I'm selling them because I just like general fall stuff better!

  22. Your home looks great! I put general fall decorations out in September, then October 1st I add Halloween décor, and finally on November 1st I take down Halloween and add Thanksgiving. That stays up until after Thanksgiving when I put all the fall stuff away and get out Christmas. Woo, that's a lot of work. :)

  23. I didn't get out my Halloween decor this year because our house is STILL on the market but I so loved seeing all of yours. Can you share where you found the haunted house and that sign in your foyer, please?

  24. You are always have the best ideas for holiday decorating! I just love it all and wish I could hire you for interior decorating! Would you mind sharing where you found the arched window above your mantle? I've been looking for something similar but haven't found one that I love enough to purchase yet. Thank you!

  25. I do a general fall decor so I don't feel like I have to decorate more than once. I definitely need to up my game though! I am thinking I would like lots of home goods gift cards for my birthday and Christmas. I'm always thinking that I wish I had more holiday decorations when each holiday is coming around the corner. There is just something about how it makes you so much more excited and makes the home so much homier! Love your decorations!
