Come On In - New Office

One of the rooms I was most sad to leave behind in our old house was the office attached to our bedroom.  I loved that cozy office!!!

The office in our new house is off the front entry.  The door on the left is a linen closet and then to the right is a full bathroom.

So this bathroom has had me stumped from the very first time we saw the house.  I'll let you take a look :)

Hello, blue tile and heavily textured walls.

We aren't ready to make any big changes in here at the moment, so I picked up this shower curtain, hung up a picture that had blue in it and called it a day.  It's growing on me.  ;)

Okay... so back to the office!

In our last office the desk was built in and so when I went to look for new furniture I knew I wanted something pretty simple.  I fell in love with the wood/metal combo at Weirs.
(now... someone come over and help me tame the mess of cords!  Seriously... what am I supposed to do with all of those?!?!)

The lamp is from HomeGoods...

... and you can find the mug HERE.  It's my new favorite for obvious reasons :)

... and my favorite coaster ever :)

You can find the shelf HERE and I felt like it was a pretty good deal considering what a big impact it made in the room.

The walls are actually a SUPER light green... they look kind of yellowy in these pics, but it's more of a gray/green in real life.

As y'all know, I like to decorate with things that are special to me so I have a few books and pictures as well as a tile that Luke made me for Mother's Day and my bass trombone mute from my days in marching band :)

The opposite side of the room looks like this....

The chair was from our old house and the glass side table I picked up at Homegoods.  My plan was to split the asparagus fern into a few smaller pots, but so far that hasn't happened.  It's on the project list :)

The side table has a stack of recent Slightly Askew print jobs (Last Christmas until now) and I love flipping through the finished products people mail me and reading the sweet notes that are often included.  I have a file in my filing cabinet at work just for sweet notes and cards that students and parents have given me over the years and on crappy days it's such an encouragement to look through them.

I found the pillow at a shop on the square a few years ago, but you can find a similar one (it's just the cover) for $4.99 HERE

If you remember our old house, the hallway to the kids bedrooms had all the canvases from our family photos over the years.  I didn't have a hallway or other big wallspace to hang them in the new house but I love them in here!  I don't know if I'll add more or just switch them out as we take new pictures.  Only time will tell :)

The rug is from Pottery Barn and used to be under our kitchen table.

The lamps are one of my favorite parts of the room and you can find the base HERE and the shade HERE.

And again... lots of things we love and are special to us...

Black and white pictures of the kids...

... and the basket has all of our Chatbooks.  If you're not familiar with Chatbooks, you register through Instagram and then it automatically curates books of your IG pics.  You can go in and edit and delete the pics if there are ones you don't want included.

We all LOVE flipping through them and I love that I don't have to do anything!

If you haven't tried them before you can click HERE and use the code below for a free book!

The pink plate was a Mother's Day gift from Luke when he was two...

... and the little copper pot belonged to my great grandmother and it holds these little glass figurines that my grandmother used to collect (I believe they came in the packages of the tea she bought) and always had lined up in the window of my grandparents farmhouse.  I have great memories sitting up on my grandparents countertop lining these up and playing with them while my Oma cooked and baked.  She also always let me lick the spatulas - good times :)

I keep them in the copper pot but smile every time I see them all lined up by one of the kids. :)

The majority of our families live locally, but we love that the space is still pretty open so that in case we have overnight guests we could easily do an air mattress in here and they would have a space next to their own full bathroom.

In our old house we had a fantastic closet in our office where I housed all of our craft supplies, party stuff, etc.  When we were looking at this house and I was feeling all apprehensive about making a move I opened the closet door in the office/5th bedroom and I think I heard angels singing :)  I felt like it was a total sign that this was the perfect house for us (crazy - yes.  true - also yes)

The top shelf has old photo albums and yearbooks and such and the rest of the shelves house party supplies, crafty things, etc.

The left side of the closet is all shelves as well (#hallelujah!)

Tons of construction an scrapbook paper, glue, etc.

... paint and canvases...

... party supplies.

... and a few decor items that I switch out every now and then...

... and the right side of the closet...

A few gifts (I pick up extra candles just in case), fabric pieces and yarn, mailing supplies, etc.

Thanks so much for taking a peek into our office!

Happy Wednesday, friends!!!

  3. Loving everything about the new house❤️ I I use the cord covers for EVERY cord in my house!! I am OCD like that😂😂😂. I usually find them @ Hobby Lobby and grab them when half-off. You might need a couple or three for the Mac. Hope it helps!!!

    We love our chatbooks, too!!!

  7. That closet is amazing! I can only dream of having a closet like that one day. haha. Love your office space and how you've decorated it, as always. If you figure out a way to hid/manage those cords I'm all ears, those cords get me every time! :)

  8. I love your office!! On the cords, could you bunch them all together and put zip ties on them all? That might help it look like just one big cord. I love the console table and little sitting area. You always decorate shelves so cute. That closet is awesome!

  9. I love the office! It looks very cozy and inviting. Two questions-
    1. How do you store the canvases that you aren't displaying? I don't have as many as you do, but I wonder how I would store the older ones.
    2. What makes the Anthro candle so awesome? I've seen so many people that love it, but I'm wondering how it's better than my Bath & Body Works. Those are my trusty (and cheaper) go-to's. However, I do love candles and I might have to invest :-)

    Thanks for sharing!!

    1. 1) as of right now I only have a couple that aren't hanging and they're on the upper shelf in Dave's closet. I would hesitate to put them in the attic (because it's like 100+ degrees in there a lot of the time) so for now that's where they are

      2) I find that they last FOREVER and the scent is unlike any that I've found elsewhere. I still love a good Fall Bath and Body Works candle, but for me the Volcano scent is just unbeatable.

    2. Thanks for the reply, Andrea. We just had portraits done of our family, so I'm going to invest in some canvases. I think they are a great way to display the photos. I'm going to try that candle - I'll check out the volcano scent.

You make we want to try to grow some ferns indoor. I haven't had much luck, but you make it look effortless!

  12. I have enjoyed your home tour so much! You are a decorating wiz and extreme organizer. Very inspiring :) My hubby uses those zip ties for cords but that in addition to those covers sound perfect. Let us know how you solve this...please :)
PS: Does drinking hot tea give you the energy to do all that you have done? What's your secret?

I don't think it's the hot tea... there's some caffeine in it, but nothing like coffee.

  22. Your den looks fantastic! Love all the sentimental pieces (to me, that's what makes a house a home).

Cords make me go crazy and that's why I go cordless if possible (particularly in the den). For hiding the cords, I would go behind the desk and neatly wrap the excess cords and tie it with twisties, zip ties, etc...so that the big bunch of excess cords is right behind the biggest part of the furniture and all you see is the single line of each cord leading to the surge protector or outlet. To me, makes it more visually appealing and the eyes aren't drawn to straight cord lines (if that makes sense).

    1. Agree!!! Love using things that have meaning.
That makes total sense - hopefully tackling the cords this week - thanks, girly!

  23. We use these under our tv stand for all of the cables and stuff and it works great. You just put the surge protector in there and it hides it all :)

  34. Pick up a bag of small clear zip-ties. Gather cords at top of desk, zip tie together, again mid-way to floor, again close to plug strip where plugged in. Trim excess & cut/adjust as needed! Easy & CHEAP!!
