Come On In - Mason's New Room

Today I'm sharing Mason's room!  I felt like his room was the most awkward space to work with... he has lots of oddly shaped walls and lots of doors/windows/etc.  That said, the room has ended up being SO HIM and it may be my favorite ;)

Again, I have no clue how the real estate photographer gets these pictures.  Apparently he or she can stand inside walls. hahaha

This was Mason's room before and we chose this room for him (despite the pink accent wall) because it connects to the larger vanity area that is shared with Luke's room and the playroom.  The third bedroom upstairs (GG's room) has a private vanity area which we thought would be better for her in the long run.  Thankfully, one afternoon with the painter was enough to transform the room into something a bit more him :)

Mason's big requests for his room were an art table and a place to hang up his art.  Check and BIG OL' CHECK!

My dad and I hung these curtain wires on the walls above his bed and he is THRILLED to have a place to hang up all of his creations.  I had visions of perfectly placed art pieces mixed with his award ribbons and photos and all of that.  Yeah, not so much.  And it's perfect.  His vision was so much better than mine :)

He is constantly creating and switching out art pieces and I can't tell you how many times I day I hear, "Mommy!!!  Come check out my new creation!!!"

With all of the kids rooms I tried to create spaces that would grow with them and in the future I see these wires filled with awards, spirit shirts, and (hopefully) lots and lots of art.

The wires are curtain wires and clips from IKEA.  They are $12/each and the corner pieces were around $5 and then I bought 2 packages of clips for (I think) a total of $8 .  The entire setup was under $60.

The rug I looked long and hard for.  I tried a natural jute, a shaggy navy and none of them fit.  I found this red trellis one at Homegoods a couple of weeks ago and as soon as we laid it out I knew it was the one ;)

The bookcase was in the boys shared room and I put a few things on it (the stacked books, frames, etc.) and then let Mason have free reign.

Which is how we ended up with army boats...

... Lego minecraft towns...

... and wrestling figurines :)

The art table has been the biggest hit ever.

It's the little table from our old kitchen and I love how much space he has to be creative.

On the opposite wall is his closet and then a door leading into the sink/vanity area.

I picked up this kitchen utility cart at IKEA and it has been PERFECT for holding markers, crayons and other art supplies.  The kids roll it right over to the table and go to town.  They'll even roll it out into the playroom.  It's fantastic.

One of the greatest things about having the boys in their own rooms has been them each having their own closet.  I prefer hanging storage for them (so we can see everything) and then we have bins for larger toys as well as baskets for socks and uniform belts and all of that.

Mason picked out his sheets and they're so cute!

I mentioned them before, but I really can't say enough great things about the duvets.  They're light and fluffy, but warm and plush.  LOVE them!

So, from the playroom there's a door that goes into the boys bathroom/sink area.  You can see the other door that goes into Mason's room.

I found the sign on Zulily and the little plant on the counter at Homegoods.

And then the door next to their hamper goes into the toilet/tub area which goes into Griffin's vanity area.

I ADORE how Mason's room turned out.  ADORE IT!  It screams Mason and I love how much he loves it.  Out of all the kids he takes the most pride in his room and he excitedly makes his bed and picks up his toys and crayons because "look how nice it looks, Mommy!" ;)

Thanks for stopping by, friends :)

    1. It's like 1.5... the boys have a sink area that connects to the toilet/tub area and then there's another door from the tub/toilet area that leads into a sink area in Griffin's room. Hope that makes sense ;)

  17. Thanks so much for the curtain wire idea! We're in the process of updating our four year old's room to a big boy room and I have been searching high and low for something to hang over his desk... I think that will be the perfect thing!

  18. I love the art work curtain wire idea! It's so crazy that I just pinned something similar from pottery barn kids on Pinterest last night but didn't want to spend that much for how little it was. We don't have an ikea in the Nashville area, but I might be making a trip to Atlanta for this!
