On The Move

Well, we're moving.  I seriously can't believe I'm typing that!

For the past year or so we've been talking about needing another bedroom in our house.  The boys share and as they've gotten older, their desire for a space of their own has grown.  We've been keeping our eye on the MLS system, but haven't loved much.  We've had meetings with builders about adding onto our house (we had plans to convert our office to Luke's room, update our laundry room, rip out the hall bathroom and make it bigger and add an addition off of our kitchen) and had plans to move forward with that starting in June (hence our lack of ANYTHING in the backyard this Spring.  hahaha)

We love our house A LOT and nothing that we had looked at could hold a candle to the house that we loved.  Well, last week my dad called me about a house that had just popped up.  It was on the end of a cul-de-sac, had a great driveway for basketball and bike riding ,a HUGE backyard, and enough bedrooms for everyone.  Plus, it was in the neighborhood that I have loved for years.  I was hesitant to go and see it simply because we had made up our minds that renovating would be the way to solve our space problems, but I obliged... and I fell in love.

We talked.  We prayed.  And I cried about leaving the house that I love (for real... because I'm nuts).  And then we made an offer and waited to hear back.  There were multiple offers and so we tried not to get too excited too soon, but we found out Friday night that the house was ours!

I'm not going to lie - it's bittersweet.  We moved into this house on Luke's first birthday. All three of my babies slept in a crib in the nursery in this house.  I've hosted birthday parties, engagement parties, baby showers and countless girls nights in this house.  We've made it our own and have loved living here.

That said, we are beyond excited to start a new chapter.  Thrilled to be able to give each of the kids their own room and feel blessed to be able to provide them with an incredible space to run and play outside.

I HATE change and get WAY too emotionally attached/invested so I'm not looking forward to having to say goodbye, but am looking forward to making the new house our own.

So, brace yourself for an onslaught of sappy house posts and an overabundance of packing pics/videos on Snapchat and bear with me as I grumble about the woes of moving :)  We had planned on never moving again (there I go getting in trouble for saying never again!  See HERE and HERE) and are trying to have great attitudes about moving during what is probably the busiest month of the year in both of our jobs. hahaha  #convenient

Our house officially goes on the market tomorrow and we're crossing our fingers for a quick and easy sale.  We should be in our new house at the end of May and are looking forward to a summer of settling in and sharing the new space with family and friends.

PS - I'm going to miss the kitchen cabinets and brick wall as much as all of you on Instagram :)

Happy Thursday, Friends!!!

  8. We are in the process of the exact same thing so I totally empathize. While I am thrilled to be moving, all 3 of our babies were brought home to this house and it saw first steps, first birthdays, first days of school...Since it housed the little years it will always hold a special place in my heart. I can't wait to see your new home via pictures and hope the sale/packing/moving part of it all goes smoothly!

  11. I literally have goosebumps and tears in my eyes for you! I understand the emotional attachment to a house, I would hate to leave where I live, it's been with me during the absolute best and utter worst time of my life! I can't wait to see this new adventure for y'all!

  12. I totally understand your mix of emotions. I'm very sentimental about houses that I've lived in. In the last house that we moved from, I walked into each room and said goodbye. I'm just like that:)
But your new home will be full of wonderful memories, too. I'm excited for you.

  20. My dad was a contractor and I love looking at homes so for kicks I went looking online for houses in McKinney to see what was out there. The homes there are double to triple the size of my CA home for half the price! {insert my sad jealous face here} So happy for you and your beautiful family!

  21. So excited for your family, Andrea! We just moved in March, and it has been so much fun making a new home our own - despite how hard it can be to leave another one where so many wonderful memories have been made. I know you guys will love the additional space and make a ton of new memories:)

I did want to caution you that it may be wise to blur out some of your realtor's information on the sign in your yard, just to be safe! Just this week, I was told that someone was using photos of my children on their social media accounts and have been dealing with the aftereffects of this all week. Needless to say, safety has become one of my primary concerns now! Just thought I'd share!

  22. BUT THOSE CUPBOARDS!!! Congratulations on this new chapter, from another overly-invested reader :) This post gave me "all the feels" because I too will have to move next year, after 19 years in the same house!! I guess that's what has to happen when you get married... ;)

  25. Andrea, listen to, "If These Walls Could Speak," by Amy Grant. When we moved out of our first house I played it in the background and made a video of every empty room because I never wanted to forget that happy little house. As our children got older, they loved watching the video and seeing their old rooms and backyard. It is such a sweet, sweet song. Congratulations on getting the house, and I will pray that all the pieces fall into place with timing for the move. (I'm a middle school teacher, also!) :)

  29. Having grown up constantly moving for my dad's work, I think I grew an UNemotional attachment to houses. You'll look your new one and all the newness and room in no time!! Congrats!!

  31. We built our new home and moved in almost 2 years ago. The house we moved from was the house I brought all (4) of our babies home from the hospital to, had all their birthday parties, hosted multiple holidays and had soooo many memories! I was sad to leave but we were running out of room. Our house sold within a week of putting it on the market! Definitely bittersweet! I'll never forget the night I went back to clean it by myself. I sobbed and sobbed and sobbed! So many memories came flooding back to me. Although I don't like change either we LOVE our new home and have made many memories with many more to come! Praying for a quick, easy sale for you and a stress-free move:)

  32. We moved nearly two years ago (only two miles away), and there's still a part of me that longs for our first house. I missed the harmony that existed there, with everything decorated and put together, and our countless memories and milestones that took place in it. But the longer we've lived in our current home, the homier it has become. What opportunity your family has now to create new memories in what sounds like an awesome new place! Best of luck with the transition.
