Hands on Halloween

Today I'm sharing a couple of really easy hands on seasonal activities that are great for toddlers through school aged kids.  First up is Candy Corn Math.

You'll need green and brown paper, candy corn, scissors, a marker, tape and a cookie sheet (optional).

I cut out the corn cobs as well as the leaves.  I just cut them freehand.
I taped the cobs down to the cookie sheet and wrote numbers or math problems on both sides of the green paper.

For Mason I wrote numbers and for Luke I wrote math problems.

The boys had to look at the problem/number and put the right number of candy corn on each corn cob.

I wrote problems/numbers on both sides of the green papers so when they completed one set they could flip them and work on the other.

Once we played the cards one time, I put candy corn on each cob incorrectly and Luke went through and corrected my mistake.  He had to tell me how many to add/take away to make it correct and he thought it was HILARIOUS that I had messed up :) hahaha

Once the boys were done, Griffin got in on the fun :)

She had no clue what she was doing, but she had a blast.

And she had a great helper :)

Next up, we got out some black cardstock, glue and mini marshmallows and got to the business of making marshmallow ghosts.

I outlined a ghost for Griffin and then she put marshmallows on the line of glue.

Luke made his own outline...

And I made an outline for Mason and then he added a face and arms :)

We let them dry and then hung them on the fridge.

So cute!

I have a few more fun and festive ideas up my sleeve that I'll share next week.  Happy crafting, friends! :)

  13. Wow! Super impressed with Luke's math skills! I'm a middle school teacher and I've got some kids who still struggle with negative numbers without a calculator. Way to go, Luke!

    1. Oh, girl! If you only knew! The other day he asked me if I knew that numbers go on forever not just in one direction, but in the other too! He drew a number line for me and showed me how when you added two negatives together it became a bigger negative which is actually smaller and that if you had a positive that was bigger than a negative and you combined them it would give you positive, but if the negative was bigger it would give you negative. He can multiply and divide and subtract 4-digit numbers in his head! We have our hands FULL with him! It's super fun (and kind of intimidating!) to see his giftedness develop.

    2. No, not on the front! I didn't think magnets could stick to stainless steel fridges; I guess some can! Crazy! Thanks for answering! Have a great night! :)
