Halloween Decor

I love Halloween.  October marks the beginning of crisp mornings and chilly evenings.  It's the pumpkins and the cinnamon and the fun activities.  The anticipation of trick-or-treating and excitement of picking out a costume.  It's more the season than the actual holiday that I love, but I have so much fun making our house extra fun and festive for our kids.  Watching their little faces light up when they see the bats and standing around the tree looking at pictures from past Halloweens is the best.

When you walk in our front door you're greeted by a trail of bats :)

I cut them all out of black card stock last year and hung them up with painters tape.  I removed the tape at the end of the season and got to reuse them with fresh tape this year.

It's such a big impact for relatively no cost (an entire pack of cardstock and a roll of painters tape is under $5)

The BOO sign I picked up on a trip to The Homestead with Dave and the masked pumpkins I've found at ROSS the past couple of years.  I love how whimsical they are with their little masks.

The spiderweb pillow was a blank pillowcase I found at Hobby Lobby and drew a web on and the Trick or Treat pillow I found on Zulily.  The throw was a Homegoods find.

I think the key to doing bats is making them look like they have "movement" my keeping them NOT in a straight line and having them point in different directions.

I finished them up going out the front door, which the kids think is a HOOT!

The haunted house I picked up at HomeGoods...

... and it has a fun little LED light inside.

This Sid Dickens memory tile is PERFECT for Halloween!

Another little masked pumpkin on the side table and I switched out the lampshade for an orange one.

Here's a panoramic pic I did with my phone do give you an idea of the full effect.

Now onto the kitchen... Jack Bauer says, "come on in!"

In the past I've done a lot of purple and green and all of that and this year I kind of toned it down and stuck with black, white and orange.

I found this lantern on clearance and fell in love.  I'm excited to use it for several seasons.  I filled it up with some "scary" books, a topiary and a few little pumpkins.  Easy!

These black and white costume prints of the boys are some of my favorite Halloween memories :)

I mixed in tea lights with  mercury glass and interesting little bottles with labels I mod podged on to finish it up.

I switched the mantle up this year, I kept the shutters (I found these in our attic when we moved in... they were from the area of our kitchen that looks into the family room that used to be a wet bar)... and added in a mirror, some spooky fabric, bats and little pumpkins.

I found all the pumpkins at Trader Joes and they're so cute!

The spiderweb lace is actually a table runner I found on Zulily.

The Halloween Tree I found at Hobby Lobby after Christmas a few years ago and the ornaments I've made with pictures of the kids in their costumes.  I need to catch up on the last two years though! OOOPS!!!

This countdown calendar is new to us and the boys are LOVING it!

We move the little ghost every morning and talk about how many days are left until we can trick-or-treat. ;)

The wire shelf is from an antique shop and used to be white and hang in my bathroom at my parents house.

This sweet little garland I found at HomeGoods.

I kept it simple and filled the apothecary jars with popcorn, candy corn and oreos.

The brick wall in the kitchen is super convenient for spiderwebs - low cost and big impact.

Peanuts and candy corn and one of the best smelling candles ever!  The best!

The wreath I made earlier this week and I have a tutorial video that I'll be sharing tomorrow.

The kids trick or treat bags are on their chairs and they can't wait to use them!

Best candle ever in the perfect festive jar!

So there's our festive house!  I hope you enjoyed the little tour :)
