We're Off!!!

Before we get to today's business - today is the very last day to order a Light and Momentary shirt in support of Ashleigh Range and her family.  (click here to read all about Ashleigh's story, how we came up with the shirt design and why this is so important to her).

I won't be ordering any extra shirts, so get on it and order NOW! (and then tell your friends, family, co-workers and strangers) ;)

Well, we're off!  We left for Colorado yesterday afternoon and should be arriving in Vail late this afternoon.

This is our first family road trip and I decided to keep it simple as far as in-car-entertainment was concerned.  Wireless headphones and new movies from the library, comfy blankets and lots of snacks.  I nixed toys and puzzles and all of that because the thought of the arguing over who had what and the "I just dropped the most important piece of my toy underneath the second row to never be seen again" tears were just too much ;)

I did make each of the kids a binder...

I googled road trip printables and came across this great "Are We There Yet" page.  He has to identify something that begins with each letter of the alphabet and write it on the lines.

I also printed off a list of all the state names and a map.  The plan is for him to cross off the state when he sees a corresponding license plate and then color in the state.

I also included word searches,

coloring pages,

Mad Libs and Math worksheets :)

I made sure to give him lots of variety and mixed up all the pages.

Mason's is similar, but is mainly coloring pages.

I did find a cute scavenge hunt.

I made sure to include lots of his favorites...

... including gray words for him to trace.

Griffin's book includes all coloring pages - the same ones as her brothers (a girls gotta have her Ninja Turtles!) as well as lots of princesses and alphabet pages.

I'll report back later and let you know whether or not the binders were a success.

Luke has been really into photography lately and so I thought it would be fun to put him in charge of "Flat Stanley-esque" assignment while we are out of town.  I thought about making our own Flat Stanley, but instead I ordered this puppy for us to take along.  Her name is Chloe O'Brien (Jack Bauer's right hand girl!) and she's coming with us since Jack can't.  Luke is in charge of taking her with us and photographing her along the way.  ;)

My parents came by on Monday night because they had a surprise for Luke to go along with Chloe...

His own GoPro!!!  He's officially cooler than me :)

I'm currently in the car reading up on how to use it, but he's going to have so much fun!

And if you're wondering why I picked this puppy, here's why :)

We are so excited to escape the heat and enjoy some quality family time (while wearing hoodies).

Be sure to keep up with our trip on Instagram and THANK YOU to everyone for the hashtag suggestions.  I decided to go with #roadfessionals , although #crazytowndoescolorado was a close second :) hahaha

Make sure you check out the free kids play at Breckenridge Peak 8, you can catch a Gondola ride up there and there is gold-panning, zip lines and a big ole' pile of snow for he kids to play in. It's a lot of fun and there is lots to keep a variety of ages happy. Enjoy our gorgeous state!

  24. Hey! This is way off topic and I know you're on vacation but I'm hoping you could take a second and answer a quick question. We just bought the Ikea daybed for my son like you guys have for your kiddos and am wondering what kind of bed rail you found that works with this bed..? (The slat base is throwing me off!) Oh, and I'm the one that asked before about mattresses for the bed - thanks for answering!! :)

  26. Such a great idea! What type of pen did you use to write on the binders? We're going on a road trip in October with our 4 boys and I'm going to use your idea. It's perfect timing with back to school sales.

  28. I LOVE that you are taking a puppy for Luke to take pictures with. I can guarantee these will be some of your favorites! When we travel sans kiddos, we always take a little something (either stuffed animal or little figurine) and take pictures of it to text back to the kiddos. They love seeing where their little animal went on adventures!

  30. Oh nooooooo!!!! I just discovered the Light & Momentary shirts this morning on Ashleigh's blog, and saw the deadline to order was yesterday! 😫😫😫 Did you by chance order any extras??? BTW - the binders are a brilliant idea! We made some for our 8-hour flight to Hawaii several years ago, and my kiddos are still using them!!! Hooray for Pinterest!!! 😍

  32. Love that you are taking Chloe along! When we went to NYC for my friends 40th we took a birthday Dora doll and photographed her all over the city so that her then 3 year old could see the fun Dora had.
