Weekend Recap: Rainy Summer Edition

Well, Summer is here - but summer weather is definitely not.  We've been spending lots of time inside playing lots of dominoes, UNO and coloring all the things.

Friday morning I got the littles ready to go to Miss Lisa's house (they're finishing out May with our sitter) and caught this picture of G heading to the car.  It is sooooooo her right now.  On. The. Move.

After the littles left, I started on one of my many summer projects - cleaning out two years worth of art/school stuff from our front dresser.  I got it done, but had such a hard time since I feel like so much of what he brings home is adorable!!!

I had a staff luncheon and when Luke and I were on our way home we got caught in a flash flood.  Thankfully we made it home safely, and only had to sit in the car for about 20 minutes waiting to come inside.

 00
We waited until it was safe to drive and then headed to the grocery store to pick up a few things.  When we got back home the water was still running down the street like crazy.  And yes, that's whitewater in our storm drain!  NUTS!

Later in the afternoon everyone ended up in our bed.  My absolute favorite.

Friday night I went to graduation at MCA and got to watch some of my little middle schoolers walk the stage and set off on new adventures.

After watching kids who I swear were JUST sitting in my Math 7 class graduate high school, I was more than happy to snuggle my sweet boy and watch a movie when I got home.

Saturday morning we ate apple slices and chatted in the bathtub :)

And then we split up for a morning of graduation parties, errands and skating lessons.

Griffin and my first stop was at Alex's party where GG (and piggy) wrote Alex notes to read once she gets to school.

Next up we stopped at McKenna's to celebrate her and wish her luck at Tarleton.  She had the CUTEST little photobooth set up out front.

McKenna's mom works at MCA and I can remember McKenna as a 4th and 5th grader coming in my room after school to ask me questions about her homework.  She is going to be the BEST Kindergarten teacher! :)

Girlfriend knows how to party!

Partied out!!!

While we were out celebrating seniors, Dave, Mason and Gibi headed to the ice rink to skate with Luke after his lessons.  This was Mason's first time on the ice.

Griffin napped in the afternoon while the boys and I played play dough and then it was off to Gibi and Haha's house for the boys and off to a couple more parties for G and I.

The three boys on the left work for Dave and I just kind of threw Griffin to James.  He had NO CLUE how to hold her and it was precious.  I hope that she's this skeptical about having her picture taken with college boys for at least 15 years :)

I had three of these guys (not John in the green shirt) in both 7th and 8th grades and they have turned into awesome young men.

Griffin loves her some queso :)  And some "big girls!"  I was chopped liver to her at all of these events.

Julie, Madi and Madi are three of the most confident, Christ-like, amazing young women I've had the pleasure of teaching.  Their quiet confidence and strong sense of selves are qualities I hope Griffin grows up to have.  And if you've been reading my blog for a long time (like 6+ years) you may remember that I donated a PJ party at my house as a silent auction item one year for our school's auction and these girls were among the group of about ten 8th grade girls I had at my house.  I was pregnant with Mason at the time and throughout the party Dave kept texting me, "What the heck are they squealing about?!?!"  hahaha

I had pizza and an ice cream sundae bar set up and then we watched Step It Up Two in our jams and I loved every single girly second of it.

On Sunday morning it was pouring rain again and so we had to forego our regular front walkway picture for a bench one.

Mason was feeling the love.

And this girl was ready for class!

After lunch Griffin and I both took a nap (hallelujah!) and the boys went on a scooter ride in between rainstorms.

They came home completely soaked and covered in mud, which was apparently a sign of a great time.

We were going to head to a big charity concert event at Adriatica (Dave was helping out with the bar at the VIP party), but decided to hang out at home instead.  We played lots of games...

... and then Haha came over to hang the pictures in Griffin's room.  I'm hoping to snap pictures of her room this week and post about it (hopefully) Thursday.  It's turning out super cute and I can't wait to share!

Dave worked on Monday, so it was just me and the three crazies.  We started off the morning with some art.

And ended the morning with a meltdown.  #toddlerproblems

Everyone woke up from naps, including Griffin who immediately had LOTS to say...

She requested to brush her teeth, and I can't say no to piggies.

She is SUCH a mama's girl and I love it.

Griffin has been REFUSING to wear a diaper (as in, she rips it off the second we put it on her... even if we put it on her backwards) and so today I resorted to her brothers underwear.  Girl panties are on my to-do-list for tomorrow and I can NOT believe it!

We ended the night with a dance party...

And I got our some of our summer decor.  So much fun!

So that was the longest post ever!  I hope y'all had a fantastic long weekend and have lots of fun things planned for this week.  Dave and I have a special "Luke Day" planned for today and we can't wait to spoil him a little bit.

Happy Tuesday, friends!!!

  7. Andrea, I found your blog through Schaeffer and Shay and just wanted to tell you how much it makes me smile. Not just smile, but truly laugh out loud (usually because of Mason:) You have a beautiful family and are doing a great job. Being a mama, especially a working mama, is not for the faint of heart but you got this. Have a blessed day!

I found the dress that McKenna is wearing! I just knew it was a Free People one so I scoured the site until I found it! It's the Babylon dress! And here's the link if other's want to know what it is as well! http://www.freepeople.com/clothes-dresses-shop-by-shape/holy-mountain-dress-34901991/

  13. A few posts ago, you mentioned an artwork app, where you take pictures of your children's artwork...did you ever end up using it? I have that on my to do list for summer :)

    1. It's called Artkive and I haven't used it yet. For some reason I'd kept little worksheets and such and so I got rid of all of that this week and now I'm trying to decide what to do with the actual art. I'll let you know if I end up using it!

    1. It sure doesn't seem like it! I hate the flooding and gloomy skies, but if it keeps away the 100+ degree temps a little while longer I'm not too mad.

  17. Did you make that firecracker banner in your last picture?! My daughters birthday is July 4th and I'd love to make it if you have a tutorial or a link to where you bought it :) Biggest thanks!

    1. I did! I don't remember whether I did a tutorial or not. It's toilet paper and paper towel rolls covered in patriotic paper and then the little tops are circles of paper that I cut a slit in and made into the cone shapes. Hope that helps!!!

    2. Thanks girl! That's what I assumed you did but I wanted to make sure :) Gathering my TP rolls now haha.

  20. Hope you guys see the sun soon. At one point my daughter would not keep her diaper on either. Nor was she really ready for potty training. Although we tried. I had to resort to duct tape. Those were the days. She is now 20.

    1. We may be resorting to duct tape! She rips it off CONSTANTLY and we're working on using the little potty. Girls are so independent! hahaha
