Spring Pics

I was going to wait until next week to share these (after I updated sidebar pics, my header, etc.), but I have zero willpower and have to share them today :)

A couple of weekends ago we met the fabulous Kelly at "our spot" for family pictures.
We do professional pictures twice a year, once in the Fall for Christmas cards and once in the Spring since they all have birthdays so close it's a great way to have yearly pics of them.

We brought Jack Bauer along and let Kelly work her magic :)

In everyday life I like bright, loud and prints for the kids (and me!), but I've learned that the pictures I like the most (and the ones I love to display in our home) are the ones where our outfits are toned down and muted.

For these pictures I picked out a military green, gray and cream and I LOVE how the colors complimented the setting.

First up was our ham!

Mason can be hot or cold when it comes to pictures (more often than not he's FRIGID hahaha), so I was pleasantly surprised to see him laughing, giggling and, most importantly, following directions.

Kelly is fantastic at letting my kids do their own thing and then capturing those moments organically.  The results are always the best.

This WILL be a canvas and may be my favorite picture of Mason of all time.

Speaking of hot or cold, my little Mama's girl was having none of it and onle wanted me to hold her.  Even holding hands and running with her brothers couldn't make her crack a smile.

I am IN LOVE with this picture because it totally captures Mason's absolute adoration of Luke as well as exactly how she was acting that day.

.Her mood was almost identical to Mason's when we did pictures in April of 2013 (he's almost exactly Griffin's age now in this pic)

Kelly turned the camera on Luke and he went into model mode.  I have no idea where it came from, but it was something :)  I laughed so hard I "may" have peed my pants a bit.

All three of my little guys!!!

Griffin would NOT let me put her down, but look at those cheeks!!!

I think that this next one is going to be our canvas.  Thoughts???

Those curls!!!

Serious hair volume.   #texashair

This kid is going to be our little actor.

And dinosaur!  I feel like he was made for the camera.

Then Luke broke out the sunnies and it was game on!

This dude is pretty photogenic as well.

Right before we loaded up and headed out I let the kids put on their FAVORITE pair of shoes and we took a picture of all our feet.  I love that I'll be able to look back and remember how Mason loves to mix and match his Natives and how G cries if she doesn't wear her pink kitties.... Luke wanted to bring his awesome running shoes, but in typical seven-year old boy fashion he left them sitting on our doorstep (although he did manage to find the time to stuff his pockets full of Legos before walking out of the door.).  Uber conservative Dave (who doesn't like to wear blue shirts with jeans because "it's too much blue" and is pretty picky about what he'll wear) has a quirk where he does love to wear fun socks... polka dots, flamingos, stripes, argyle, crabs all of it.  And Griffin wants to be "on" me at all times, so it's only fitting that she wouldn't even stand next to me, she wanted to be in between my feet. So many memories and fondness in one pic of our feet :)

My mom came with us to help wrangle kiddos and as she was loading everyone into the van Kelly snapped a couple of pics of just Dave and I.  We don't take tons of pictures together, so I'm always super glad to have these.

I hope that y'all got half as much of a kick out of these as I did!  Now I'm off to order canvases and head to Home Goods to buy more picture frames.  I have the hardest time replacing pictures in frames because I get all sentimental taking out the old pictures... is it just me???

Enjoy your days, girls!  See you tomorrow for Friday Favorites!!!

And in case you're curious, here are our family pictures from past seasons.

  6. Griffin is cute in anything, but I must say that the natural, earthy tones really make her gorgeous features just "pop". They really stand out. I mean as opposed to the loud colors/patterns she is usually in. I've always loved her outfits, don't get me wrong, but now I've seen her more toned down, this is DEFINITELY the look for her. Maybe the whimsical colors she usually wears overrides or drowns out her features?? Oh well, just my educated opinion.... I worked with child model recruiters and stylists for years and having features that attract attention AND are unique (which Griffin certainly has) in natural Earth tones is a must. I'm going to direct some of my colleagues to your blog.

  12. I have two daughters (5 & 3) and each of them reacted the same as Mason & Griffin when they had their two year old photos taken. And I'm the same way when it comes to taking down photos...I don't do it, so I'm running out of room.

Great photos of your beautiful family!

  16. I love love love those photos. Luke has mastered his Blue Steel look. I love that Mason is wearing jeans with holes. We just did our family photos last week (first time ever!), and we put our 3 year old in jeans with holes. FIrst of all pretty much all of his pants have holes so we didn't have a lot of options, but it is trendy and a true reflection of our 3 year old. I'm thinking of a canvas print when we get them back.

  28. These photos are so fantastic! I love your tips about the color scheme of your outfits. I'm going to heed your advice in a few weeks when we do ours. G's bow in that lime green color really tie it all together for me! They match the tree colors perfectly!! Such personalities on all your kids, they really show through on all these photos. Canvas them all!!
