Weekend Wrap-Up: Semi-Formal Edition

I loved all of your favorite accessories yesterday!!!  I see some online shopping in my future!

I forgot to post these on Friday, but look how SWEET Griffin was looking on Thursday morning!

And speaking of sweet...

This kid is BEGGING to skate with his big brother :)

And then on Friday morning...

EEEEK!!!  She looks so big in this pic!!!

And Dave sent me this picture and I cracked up.  :)  She wanted to stand with him and Mason wasn't feeling it.

Friday we were having CRAZY rain and flash flooding, so after my staff meeting we rushed home in between rain storms to get Jack Bauer outside for a bit.

Friday evening Dave's mom stopped by to drop off one of Griffin's birthday presents that hadn't made it in time for our Family Fiesta last weekend.  The stroller that Santa brought her bit the dust a while ago and she was SO excited for this one!

She got baby settled in, wiped her face and then she was off!

Friday night the boys and I watched The Lorax in my bed and ate way too much popcorn.  Saturday morning we headed up to the Country Club to check out the room where the Semi-Formal was going to be that night.  I've hosted LOTS of events in this space, but they just removed the fireplace and essentially made the one room into two and so I wanted to get my bearings before that night.  (We were actually the first event in the new room! SO FUN!)

We picked up donuts and had a donut/dance floor picnic (and yes.... the dance floor was freshly cleaned. hahaha)

We broke it down like nobody's business! :) hehehe

After the dance party we headed out to the balcony to watch some early-morning golfers.

hahahaha :)

Typical!

Then the boys ran some stairs before we headed home :)

Saturday afternoon we played outside and then G watched some Frozen before nap time.

I've done Student Government at school for nine years and have planned DOZENS of dances and events.  I used to plan all of high school and middle school events, but the past three years I've just done Middle School.  I looooooooove middle school for so many reasons, one of which is that middle schoolers don't take themselves too seriously.  They are fun and energetic and impulsive and my absolute favorite age.  They're not too cool to do the cupid shuffle, still need a hug sometimes when they're having a crappy day and laugh at my corny jokes :)  I am so lucky to teach at a small, Christian school where I get to build amazing relationships with my students beyond the classroom.  I go to their games, incorporate their hobbies and interests into my exams and have the unique opportunity to watch them grow and mature through high school.  I get to travel with my students, pray with (and for!) my students and serve in our community with my students.  It's not a typical teacher/student experience and I am soooooooo grateful for that.  One of our history teachers wore his baby blue tux to the dance, another busted some SERIOUS moves during a dance off and we all get dragged into the photo booth and onto the dance floor during The Wobble by our students.  So when I decided to make a fashion statement of my own Saturday night I knew they'd eat it up :)

Shabby Apple got in touch with me about a month ago about reviewing one of their tulle skirts and I immediately knew where I'd be wearing it to.  It's full and fun and so so so pink!!!

I kissed my kiddos and loaded myself and my giant skirt into my minivan.  That was a sentence I never thought I would type :)

Yes, Kroger patrons... I am wearing a bright pink tulle skirt and buying bags and bags of marshmallows.  #sowhat :)

It would be a TOTAL shame for this awesome skirt to hang in my closet, just dreaming of getting out and bringing a smile to someone's face... so in the spirit of "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants" I want to pass it along to one of y'all!  Maybe you want to wear it in fun photos with your little girl, maybe you think it would be presh with a fitted white tee and denim jacket for an impromptu date night or maybe you think it would bring a smile to your kiddos faces for a kitchen dance party.  Whatever the reason, shoot me an email, tell me how you (or a friend!) would want to wear the skirt to brighten your (or someone else's!) day and I'll ship it out to you this week!  My email address is dave-and-andrea@hotmail.com and to make it easy for me to keep track of please make the subject "Traveling Tutu" and your name :)

Party time!!!

PS - Stonebridge is going through a face lift and the two rooms upstairs just became one!  Here is what it looked like when I hosted the boys pirate party...

...
and now!  It's HUGE!!!  And light and bright and, did I mention, HUGE! hahaha  They're doing new chairs and window treatments and all of that as well - the events here are going to be gorgeous!

My student government reps picked a "red carpet" theme and I was happy to oblige!

I try to keep the decor pretty minimal for middle school events, and usually go with balloons for the big impact and minimal cost.

We had a chocolate fountain which the kids LOVED!

And a super fun green screen photo booth...

There was lots of awkward slow dancing, lots of mass exoduses to the bathroom and a teeny bit of drama... so pretty much a great night :)  I got home around midnight and crashed around 1 a.m.   Sunday morning came EARLY, but we made it to church on time (amen!) and then took my parents out to brunch at Stonebridge for their birthdays.

Fun fact... my Dad's birthday was on Friday and was Mason's due date and my Mom's birthday was on Saturday which was Griffin's due date! (and yes... Mason and Griffin were due one day apart on both of my parents' birthdays and ended up coming (completely on their own!) 8 days early and ended up with their own birthdays a day apart!  Crazy, right???)

We're so thankful to live down the street from my parents and for the awesome relationships with my kids that experience fosters.

Sunday afternoon I worked on lesson plans and grading and then caught up on Grey's Anatomy.

I was SHOCKED!! SHOCKED!!! at last weeks' episode and my head is spinning with questions.  It may take me a while to process. :)  In the meantime, I'll be watching old episodes on Netflix and reliving the glory days of Greys.

Don't forget that tomorrow is Recipe Club!  Round up one (or two!) of your best recipes and get ready to share.

Happy Tuesday, Friends!!!

  20. The birthday situation in your family is very cool! We have a similar story. My husband and I were born 4 hours apart in the same hospital. Our birth announcements were published in the local newspaper on the same day, with his announcement directly above mine because both our last names began with a C. Also, our firstborn and our third baby were born on the exact same day, 10 years apart. My oldest is not crazy about sharing a b day with his baby sis, haha! Also, I loved the tulle skirt, way too cute!
