Four

Dear Mason West,

Today you are four and I have absolutely no idea how that is possible.

You came into the world silent and wide-eyed.  Immediately observant, you say back and "took it all in" from the very beginning.

My smallest baby, you made up for your teeny size with BIG facial expressions.

You have the BIGGEST and best smile around and your giggles are contagious.

Your big, brown eyes have an undeniable sparkle...

... a little mischievous twinkle :)

You are messy and wild and SUPER opinionated.

You have a definite flair for the dramatic and we've caught you watching yourself cry in the mirror on multiple occasions :)

I can't tell you how many times I've been told that you're "the life of the party" :)

Charming and sweet and incredibly strong willed - a combination that makes it difficult for me to discipline you without cracking a smile.  You've already learned flattery and can give a side eye that melts me.

You are the embodiment of spunk.  You love dressing up, playing "baby puppies" and you know EXACTLY how to push Luke's buttons :)

You eat ketchup on EVERYTHING (like, on yogurt)...

... have amazing comedic timing...

... and can win a stare down like nobody's business.
Case in point:

You know your ABC's and can count to ten (and beyond), but most days when we ask you to recite them you tell us that "you already said them" either at Miss Lisa's, in your dream or while you were playing outside.

You are our entertainer and will do pretty much anything to get a laugh.  This makes my mom-side giggle, but my middle school teacher side cringe. hahaha

You're a free spirit who is ALWAYS ready to bust a move...

... and you're ALWAYS up for a wrestling match. Always.

You pick out your own clothes every morning...

... and you wear your shorts backwards every day because you "like them like that".

You can never get enough to drink and tell the LONGEST stories (demanding complete and undivided attention during the entire duration).

You have an impressive vocabulary, using words like explosive and compartment... but it swings both ways, because then you'll turn around and say something like, "This sketti is freaking awesome".  I die.

You ADORE your big brother and dote on your baby sister.  You are ALWAYS willing to share, except when it comes to my side of the bed and the flower pillow.  You want those all to yourself :)

Mason - you make my heart happy.  Your passionate approach to pretty much everything is inspiring and I can't wait to see how God uses your natural charisma and zest for life in your future.

You give THE BEST kisses, which is great news since you and I have plans to get married ;)

I love you to the moon and back, Mason West!!!

“Don’t climb on that, don’t break anything, don’t be so aggressive, don’t be so noisy, don’t be so messy, don’t make such crazy risks. But God’s design–which he placed in boys as the picture of himself–is a resounding yes. Be fierce, be wild, be passionate.”
John Eldredge, Wild at Heart
