Easy St.Patrick's Day Decorating

How fun was yesterday??? I loved seeing all of your GORGEOUS rooms!  I'm working my way through all the links and am feeling super inspired :)

So last year I went full on "rainbow" in my kitchen for St.Paddy's day...

... it was fun and colorful and I had a great time doing it.

But this year I knew I wanted to "tone it down" a bit and do something completely different.

I wanted to play with green, white and gold instead of rainbow and make it more "subtly festive" :)

I filled my apothecary jars with granny smith apples, Reeses cups (because of GOLD!) and dried green peas.  (Note: I picked up my apothecary jars at Marshalls years and years ago - but HomeGoods typically has a great selection of these as well)

The gold mercury glass candle holder I picked up at Homegoods around Christmas time, the Sid Dickens memory block was a birthday gift from my parents and the tulips were a $5 grocery store add on :)

I picked up the glass lamp at HomeGoods about a month ago (eventually it will make it's way into Griffin's "big girl room") but for now it's been making it's way around the house.  You can fill it with stuff (which is so fun), but I love it just plain glass as well.

This little copper pot actually belonged to my great grandmother in Holland.  I usually have it in my closet with bracelets and stuff, but thought it would make the perfect little "pot of gold".

The glitter dipped mason jar is one I made for Ashby's shower.

I couldn't pass up a chance to deck out my kids table, but again kept it simple with green and white.

The paper plate, napkins and straws I picked up in the party aisle at WalMart and the wooden cutlery is from clearance section at Target.

A few more tulips and apples coupled with a super easy chalkboard and I was done!  Oh, and some confetti for some sparkle.

I picked these hats up at JoAnns last year and used them as
"chair backers" this year. My boys thought this was so fun!

I did this the weekend before we got iced in and it was really convenient because we used the paper plates and such for those couple days for less cleaning.  hahaha

So, there you have it!  A "subtly festive St.Paddy's Day!"  Do you decorate for the 17th?  Sit this one out?  Is your decor full on rainbow and pots of gold or more subtle like mine this year?  I'd love to hear!

Happy Wednesday, friends!

  10. Super cute! I love it. Question: You said, you decorate your kid's table... Is it in the kitchen in place of a breakfast table? Just curious. Also, do your littles not mess with all the table decor throughout the day? I would love to do this for mine, but can see them playing with it all day. :)

  12. Love it! I decorate my kitchen table with green accent pieces and have the shamrock on my HAPPY EVERYTHING plate because March 17th is a big day around our house. Eons ago on that date at 7:15 and 45 secs ( i had a cool digital clock that did seconds) my hubs, then high school boyfriend, asked me to GO STEADY! My kids always get the biggest kick out of that story and have always said we met in the sandbox. So from these HS sweethearts to you guys, Happy St. Patricks Day! xoxo

  13. You think of such inexpensive and easy ways to decorate with just a color theme. Thanks for such practical and easy ideas. I may have to copy the rainbow theme, the preschool teacher in me is in love :)

  17. So cute!!! I love it all!

Yes, we decorate for St. Patrick's Day! When we were being discharged from the NICU with my middle son the charge nurse said "you are one of the lucky ones." Although we knew it was the Lord's favor on his life, the word "lucky" immediately took on a new meaning. Anytime I see it now I am reminded to say a quick prayer of thanks for Brody and my other two miracles.
We also celebrate by having Lucky Charms, green milk and eggs for St. Pat's bfast. Easy peasy and the boys love eating the sugar cereal I don't allow them to have otherwise ; )

  20. I'm all about the green. St. Patrick's Day is my birthday so it is always a holiday we decorate for. Green also happens to be my favorite color...so there's that.

I am loving your decor and those apothecary jars are great! I'm going to have to get some Reese's for my gold as well!!

That kids table is so cute. Does it stay like that all the time or does Griffin destroy it? I try doing that stuff on Ellie's table but she just clears the whole thing as soon as she sees it!
