Weekend Wrap-Up: Before the Ice Edition :)

Friday was an awesome day.  All of my classes except for one were taking a test in my class, which all the teachers know means QUIET! Woo hoo!  hahaha  THEN, my principal left early for baseball, so we didn't end up having a staff meeting.  Since our classes get out early on Friday that meant I was done at 1:15!  Luke REEEEEEEALLY wanted to stay at ESS, so he hung with friends while I headed home to grade papers in my pjs with this little monkey :)

You can see how long he lasted on the floor by himself.  #spoiled

When everyone was home from school and the sitters, we took advantage of the temps in the 60s and headed out for a walk.

We had so much fun scootering and talking to neighbors and trying out our new stroller.  (I can't wait to share lots of details with y'all in the next few weeks... spoiler alert.... it's awesome!)

We got home, ate dinner and did some crafting.  And yes - we're pretty confident G is going to be a lefty.  She prefers her left for EVERYTHING (eating, drawing, picking things up, stirring the pots on her little stove, talking on her phone, etc.)

I got everyone bathed and jammied up and then after G went to bed Dave ran home and brought me a surprise.... the dessert special that night :)  Strawberry rhubarb crisp and homemade ice cream.  It was DIVINE!!!

Saturday morning meant alternating belly rubs and kisses for Jack Bauer...

And then some tea time :)

G's hair was looking EXTRA cute and curly thanks to the previous nights bath and so we commemorated it with selfies :)  I typically only wash her hair 2-3 times a week and the days after bath usually look like this. hahaha

I stayed in bed and tried to wrap up some grading (remember those 5 tests from Friday!?!?!?!)...

... and then it wast time to hit the grocery store.

We're clearing out some more Fall clothes and I'm determined to get one more wear out of a few things, so she was looking extra sassy :)

I would wear this in my size.  Are you surprised??? :) hahaha

Dave headed in to work for the lunch rush (when it's super nice out the golf course gets crazy which  means so do the restaurants), G headed down for a nap and the boys headed outside to get some Vitamin D before the cold came in on Sunday.

Manda's little guy Aiden came by for a bit and the boys played "Ninja weapons" or something equally "boyish". :)

These are the poses I got....

They were dirty, loud, poorly dressed and having the best time.

I put out some St. Patricks Day decorations (post later this week!) and attempted to get a pic of Mason in one of the leprechaun hats.  He was semi-cooperative, but that boy is NEVER still!

While the kids played, I made chili, meatloaf, cookies, drank tea and listened to Pandora with the sliding door open.  It was perfection.  I'm pretty sure that being in the kitchen with the kids playing outside and the door open is my happy place.

Sweet Mallory texted me pics of Baby Lucy in the MJ that Griffin and I gifted her at her baby shower...

And so when G woke up from her nap it was only fitting that she matched :)

G played her favorite game where she pulls out all of our bags of chips and sorts them :)

While G and I were playing kitchen and crushing chips, Mason put himself down for a nap.  Seriously.

Mason will do this every once in a while - he gets WIPED in the afternoon, falls asleep and then sleeps all night.  On Saturday he fell asleep around 4:00 and despite talking to me a couple of times, slept through dinner and didn't wake up until about 7:30 on Sunday morning. CRAZY!

Meanwhile, Luke was outside having the best time.

He pulled out every toy in our backyard and created the coolest (read: trashiest) army base ever.

He was sooooooooo proud of himself!

He went outside before 12:30 and I had to drag him inside after 6.  There was a WHOLE lot of dirt to scrub off that kid.

Saturday night was super quiet, as Mason was already asleep, GG went to bed early and Luke fell asleep pretty soon after dinner.  Jack Bauer and I snuggled up in bed for some grading and Bravo TV.

You're going to have to ignore my scrubbed face and pulled back hair, but focus on this sweet boy!!!

Sunday morning Griffin decided to sleep in WAY late as well.  I woke her up at 8:25, changed her diaper, put her clothes on and we were in the car by 8:30.  Sleepy, but cute!

I was in Sunday School when Narci texted me these from the Children's Building.  :)

Temperatures were dropping and so I jumped on the opportunity to wear my faux fur again :) hahaha

Shay and I taught Sunday School and she shared some brownies with our class.  Mason blessed it and thanked God for Miss Shay, brownies and icing. :)

I attempted an after church pic....

... and pretty much failed.  'Cause #sundaymorningainteasy

Sunday afternoon involved chili and cornbread...

And then snuggles and naps for everyone.

I napped longer than everyone (Hallelujah!) and woke up to "Mason Unicorn"

We wrapped up the evening with tattoos for everyone :)

And then a late night movie since we didn't have school Monday.
Phew - hopefully you stuck around through all my pics :)  It was a fun weekend (where I actually got out my big camera!).

I almost forgot that tomorrow is recipe club, so link up with me and share something delicious!

Happy Tuesday, Friends!!!

  11. Aw, I love reading about your normal days.
How I miss the days of my kids being that age. I wish I could go back and hear them playing outside.
Thank goodness, I still have one 9 year old or I don't know what I would do. All his brothers and sisters are older now.
Enjoy these days as I know you are:)

  13. I love how you share your low-key weekends and it's so fun! I always think well there wasn't anything to really share because we didn't do anything big but I see now that even the small stuff is interesting to people. I love the set-up in your backyard. I so want to create that kind of space some day. Our current house is on a hug hill so my kids can't play out back. We are trying to sell our house because of that and other things. I just enjoy your blog so much!

    1. Thanks, girl! I love to share... but more than anything I love to have the "simple days" chronicled for myself :) I love looking back and remembering the "everyday" moments. Our backyard is WORK, but my kiddos love it and so it's worth it. We're ready for the weather to perk up so we can really get it together again. Thanks so much for reading!

  14. Hey Andrea, I'd love a post someday about your cleaning routine. Your heavy-duty cleaning tips, but especially your everyday cleaning tips, products you use, how often you clean certain areas, etc. Thanks :)

    1. Hey, Brianna! My cleaning routine has become MUCH simpler in the last 3 months as my parents hired an amazing cleaning lady to come to our house one afternoon a week! AMEN!!! Before that, I had "daily chores" that I tried to do (i.e. bathrooms one night, vacuum one night, dust one night, etc.) every day and then I did more deep cleaning on Saturday mornings and when my grandfather passed away he left money for my parents to allocate to me and my brother and they decided that this would be something that I would NEVER do for myself (because I'm cheap), but would benefit our whole family. I was skeptical, but it has been the biggest blessing ever. Working full time it has left me with Saturdays to actually ENJOY and one less task to do before bed at night. Such a blessing!!! I will say that I'm a huge fan of Pledge Multi-Surface spray because I only have to tote around one product and I always clean with coffee filters instead of paper towels since they don't leave any residue behind. Hope this answers your questions! :)

  20. I second the request for a post on your cleaning routine! Also, just wondering what is your kids normal bed time? I would love if my little one still napped but if he does, he is up until after 10pm!

    1. Hey! I commented above to Brianna about the cleaning :)
      About naps/bedtimes...
Luke takes a nap at school (Kindergarten still naps at our school) and he's in bed before 8:00. Sometimes he's out like a light and other nights he looks at books for a while before falling asleep.

Mason naps at his sitters house after lunch (around 12:30 I think) and we put him to bed around 7:30. Like Luke, sometimes he's OUT and other nights he plays in his bed and such before falling asleep.

Griffin still takes a great afternoon nap (today she napped 1:00 - 4:00... but doesn't nap that long when she's at her sitter's house) and is in bed by 7:00 most nights.

Hope that answered all your questions!!! Let me know if you have others :)
