Happy 2015

Hey, friends! Happy 2015!!!

On January 1 of last year I shared some "words of wisdom" I was planning on living by in 2014.  I printed them out and stuck them on my mirror, bulletin board and in my Bible.

This year, when I was thinking of my "theme" for the year some sage words from my favorite ice queen kept popping into my heart and so I ran with it :)

If I'm being totally honest, I'm a dweller.
Big time.

I've been this way since I was little - I don't have a hard time making decisions - but after I make them I tend to dwell on it.  Big things, little things.  I dwell.  I can't tell you how many times my mom has said the words, "make your decision and LIVE IT" to me.

It's not just in decision making, but in other circumstances as well.
Someone says something about me that I know isn't true or hurts my feelings - I dwell.
I have a crummy day at school - I dwell.
I can't find something I'm looking for - I dwell.
I feel like I've disappointed someone - I dwell.

I wish I could be more like Taylor Swift and just shake it off :), but I don't think that's in my DNA.

So this year, I'm making a concerted effort to LET IT GO!  I'm choosing to dwell in Him and not on circumstances or situations.  I'm a busy lady (aren't we all!) and I don't want to spend my time dwelling on inconsequential things.  Instead I want to get deeper into His word, spend more quality time with my kids and husband and put effort and energy into friendships.

I'm planning on applying "let it go" in my parenting as well - picking up the family room before we head out on a walk?  Let it go.  Missing puzzle pieces?  Let it go.  Legos EVERYWHERE?  Let it go. :)

So, what words do you plan on living by this year?  Do you pick a "theme" for the year?  I'll be sharing some of my goals next Tuesday for the first installment of "Show and Tell Tuesday" - but this is my "big picture" ;)

Tomorrow is Friday Favorites, but for now I'll leave you with this fun video I put together.  I've watched it at least half a dozen times and I MAY have teared up after several of those viewings. hahaha

I hope you all have a fantastic day and start the new year with family!

  3. I love your blog, and I love this theme! I too can be a big time dweller, and it truly does suck the happiness out of a situation. I think this also goes alone with focusing on the things you have control over. Happy New Year!

Also, is it supposed to be choosing instead of chosing

  4. Andrea- you totally nailed it for me. I'm a total dweller and am constantly second guessing my decisions. I may piggy back and use 'let it go' as my theme for 2015 too. Love your videos on Instagram....so much cuter when you can hear their bodices. Happy new year

  6. I have truly enjoyed reading your blog the last few months. Ironically, you might think we have nothing in common. I am a 55 year old with two adult children. However, I am also a middle school teacher and a devout Christian. I find many of your posts very inspiring.
Each year my girlfriends and I get together to do Collagapy. Basically we choose a word (one word) that will represent our focus for that year. Then we create a collage from magazines clippings that is our interpretation of that word. (Some people call it a manifestation board.) Last year my word was "Balance" and it was a good one. My life was so unbalanced, I was in a lead position at my school and my job was affecting my health and mental state. "Balance" got me to focus on my diet, got me back in the gym and back to attending mass on a weekly basis. This year my word is "Achieve." I have many goals this year, and I don't want them to be just goals....I want to ACHIEVE them.
Thanks again for your wonderful posts and have a fabulous 2015!

  8. I just love you little mama. You are such a blessing to so many women AND middle schooler's out there. I hope you know that. Don't let that little seed of doubt plant itself. I think it happens to all of us women. We just need to squash it before it grows. Keep up all the great things you do in 2015! Gonna be a great year!

  14. Love your theme and your sweet video! Like you, I am super busy trying to balance everything in life between family, teaching, taking online grad school classes, and volunteering for church ministry events. So my theme this year is 100% - no matter how hard I have tried in the past to balance everything on my plate, I have learned I can't give 100% to everything I have going on but with whatever I am concentrating on during that moment of time (teaching, tending to family needs, reading for grad school class, volunteering, etc) I want to give 100% to that particular need at that particular time and try not to multi-task or think about other areas of life. Give 100% to that moment and enjoy it!
