Weekend Recap: Homecoming Edition

Happy Monday, friends! Fair warning - you MIGHT want to have a cup of coffee before you sit down to read this post.... it's about as jam packed as our weekend was ;)

I've mentioned it before, but I'm the Student Government sponsor for Middle School - and probably my biggest duty is Homecoming.  There are spirit days throughout the week, a tailgate party, Homecoming court (and elections) and then on Friday we have an entire day of activities.  Entertaining 180 middle schoolers is no easy feat - so I brought in some professional help... The Power Team!  ;)  If you were a youth group kid in the nineties then you know EXACTLY who I'm talking about. It's really big guys who come out and do some crazy feats of strength and incorporate a motivational/spiritual message along with it.

The students didn't know that this was coming and had no clue what to expect.  The guys blew up hot water bottles until they exploded...

Swung sixth graders around in the air...

Rolled up frying pans...

... ripped phone books in half, bent steel rods and horse shoes, and crushed cans of sprite... among other things.  A super cute audience member stopped by ;)

After the strength show - the guys shared their testimonies and it was awesome!

You can't scare us.... we teach middle school!!! ;) hahaha

Power Team wrapped up and it was time for the kickball tournament!

I kept the boys and girls separate and we had three games each...

... and then the boys winning team played the girls winning team.  So fun!

After kickball it was time for lunch, a pep rally and a staff vs. students volleyball game.  School got out and it was time to set up for the "Party with a DJ" (aka a dance... but since we have 6th graders we call it a party. hahaha  #christianschoolproblems)

We went with a "country chic" theme and I had so much fun decorating...

I had a super sweet parent make this box and then we filled it with pea gravel and sternos to create a "s'mores station".

We have awesome parents who brought up tons of decor items for me to use... saddles, chalkboards, mason jars, etc.

After setting up, I rushed home just in time to see Dave for a few minutes and snap some pics of G in her SWEET little romper.  I am loving transitioning some of her fall pieces into Fall with jackets and boots.

Dinner and baths and then I was back to school to meet the DJ.

The party was 10 - 12 (there's a varsity football game that night and we like to give kids a chance to go to the game and then come hang out at the party).

The s'mores bar (and GIANT marshmallows!) were a huge hit!

Saturday morning we were up bright and early (no rest for the weary! hahaha) and the boys headed to soccer while GG and I hit up Hobby Lobby.  I knew that the soccer fields were going to be CRAZY muddy after the big storms we had Friday night and G has a hard time sitting through an entire game, so we sat out of this one.

When we got home she had fun digging through my bag...

,, and rocking some Halloween attire ;)

Even though we missed the game, I got some cute pics courtesy of Knox's sweet mama.

Saturday afternoon Dave headed in to work and the kiddos and I hunkered down for a relaxing afternoon.  There were lots of puzzles, lots of books and some movie time as well ;)

The weather was too gorgeous to NOT be outside, so we braved some drizzle, picked up Gibi and headed to the playground.

Y'all... this girl is a WILD WOMAN!!!

She wants to do the slide (repeatedly!) all by herself!!!

Mason found a tennis racket (random alert!)...

... and Luke introduced G to the curly slide.

I mean... no fear!

A run up and down the big hill and a group pic and it was time to head to the club to pick up breakfast tacos for dinner.  Because I'm mom of the year like that ;)

Yesterday morning I attempted a group pic...

.... and ended up with a really sweet one of Luke ;)

Griffin was looking stinkin' cute in some new MJ pieces.

After church and lunch I worked on grading papers until it was time to get everyone up from naps to head to our Sunday School class's Harvest Party.  GG "pre-partied" sans pants with a capri sun on the table ;)

I'm going to save the Harvest Party for it's own post, but I'll tease y'all a bit with this...

I saw this come across my Facebook feed and could kind of relate ;)

Homecoming is always a BEATING, but so much fun.  I'm 100% glad it's over and am totally ready for a "normal" week at work.  It's also a new grading period and I lurve a fresh start.

I promise promise promise that I'll be sharing my Halloween decor this week along with some other fun and festive posts... it's Fall y'all!!!

Have a FABULOUS day!

  12. Hi Andrea,
You seriously have the cutest family, and you are just an amazing mom! Just a quick question (I am sorry if you have answered this before...) I am a public middle school teacher, and I know you teach at McKinney Christian Academy; therefore, the guidelines may differ, but how in the world can you get away with posting pictures of your students. I, too, am friends with some of my families, but I honestly would really get nailed for posting any sort of pics. My district wants children to be shielded and really emphasises equality for all families as well. When you posted about the girl's sweet family, it made me think about my situation, and it would just be a no go. I am really envious and intrigued how you can do it without making any ways because in our district people talk (sadly behind backs as well...) I also love that G can come and watch! I have two sets of twins (gulp, I know!), and they are older now, but they would never have been allowed all the campus time your kids see. You are certainly one blessed, lucky lady!
Thanks, Andrea. You really seem to do it ALL!!!!

    1. No worries - our guidelines are different, especially since we do have personal relationships with LOTS of the parents. I post pics of my kids with students (as a "mom") and if I post an individual kid (like the one of the girl today - their parents know). I post an occasional large group pic, but typically those are pics that are on our FB page or website as well. I posted a bunch of pictures on my "why I'm a teacher" post, but every pic was of students who have graduated. And yes... my school has no problem with my kids coming up and being around my students. One of the many blessings of teaching at a private school. ;) Before my blog was what it is today I used to post WAY more pictures, but I refrain a lot more now knowing that my readership is bigger than it used to be. Hope that answers your questions!

  16. First - seriously, the decor for the "party with a DJ" is SO cute, and is it weird that I immediately thought how cool Griffin's wedding reception will be and if I can hire you to decorate for Brynn's?!?! ;-) Second, your kids are so adorable, and I love the park pics! And, third, we had so much fun at the Harvest party! We have loved getting to know everyone.
