May 23/24

Thursday morning Griffin and I hung out after her morning feeding and then got ready to head up to MCA with Luke so I could hand out my awards at the Middle School Academic Awards ceremony.

Pre-K and Kindergarten were done on Wednesday but the other grades were still in session and we ran into some friends before the ceremony:

This pic is actually from a few days earlier... Luke wanted to have a lego building contest with Dave.  I think it goes without saying.. Luke won :)

Friday morning Luke worked on some aqua doodle pictures...

... and then drew a picture for Griffin that he wanted to show her while she was hanging out in her crib.

We got ready and then went to school for the end of the year staff luncheon.  At the luncheon Griffin got passed around and ooohed and aaahed over.  During the closing prayer she UNLOADED super loudly three different times.  It was super embarrassing and hilarious at the same time.

Friday night the boys had a babysitter and I got to take Griffin to Graduation.  We got to see my sweet Shelly (along with 42 others) walk the stage.  It was a LONG ceremony, but I'm so glad we got to go.

Griffin's thoughts on Graduation :)

Wednesday, May 22

Last Wednesday was Luke's last day of school and I totally dropped the ball.  I had grand plans for a pancake breakfast, adorable teacher gifts and a photo op before heading out the door.  Instead, Dave and I woke up at 7:30 (we typically leave the house at 7:25), threw Luke in a uniform and literally RAN out the door.  While Dave was rushing Luke to school Mason and I hung out and ate breakfast.  He kept getting his foot "tuck" :)

The day after all the tornadoes and a friend posted a fantastic article... this part really resonated with me:

I caught one of Griffins very first genuine smiles :)

Just for comparison... 2 days old and 5.5 weeks :)
We stretched it out in the afternoon...

and I got our photo-op sign ready for when Luke got home.

Griffin enjoyed tummy time...

... and I SWEAR she almost rolled over :)

After an epic spit up it was time for a quick wardrobe change:

Griffin and I picked up both the boys and I was cracking up at my little crew walking down the deck at MCA:

We decided to celebrate the last day of school by going out for pizza!

The boy side of the table...

... and the much calmer and more mellow girls side :)

After pizza we walked over to Ben and Jerry's for a healthy dose of pre-bedtime sugar :)

Later that night while browsing through Pinterest I came across this pic and cracked up...

Dave ran to Kroger to pick up a few things (including Popcorn Indiana's Kettle Corn) and he texted me this pic... it was a true tragedy :)

I also got a text from Sierra Leone (seriously!).  A dad of one of my students went on a mission trip and I gave him loads of my boys outgrown clothes as well as a bunch of dresses that I wasn't wearing anymore.  This little guy is sporting a shirt that both my boys wore.  How cool is that?!?!?  The kids were crazy excited about the clothes and the dresses all went to older girls at the orphanage.  It was so neat to see clothes that my kids wore on kids in Africa!  WAY better than dropping them off at Goodwill.

May 19/20

On Sunday afternoon I had the brilliant idea to do some "sensory" play with a GIANT bag of rice I'd had in the pantry for months.  The boys LOVED IT!!!

And I loved it too until Mason decided to dump rice all over his brother's head.  Also - while I was cleaning up I had the boys take all the hot wheels cars they had been playing with in the rice back to their room.  When I went in their bedroom there was rice ALL OVER their blue shaggy rug.  Turns out the little hot wheels cars were FILLED with rice.  UGH.  Lesson learned.

Later that afternoon Luke went to the bathroom... after a while I went to check on his progress and found him SOUND ASLEEP!!! LOVE his creative use of the cabinet door :)

Griffin had on a super cute onesie with shoes!!!  How sad is it that she's already outgrown several of her newborn onesies!!!  Thankfully this one is size 3 months so it should last us for a while.

On Monday, Luke was at school and Mason was at Miss Lisa's so it was just Dave, Griffin and I.  We were productive at home in the morning and then got dressed and had a lunch date at Genghis Grill! YUM!

Luke got home from school that day and it was straight to the dentist for he and I.  You can tell that the dentist obviously stresses him out horribly.  NOT! :)

Miss Pauline had to keep reminding him that she couldn't clean his teeth if he was talking :)

It was a clean bill of health for Luke, but he did proceed (unprompted!) to tell the front desk staff that his dad and I NEVER EVER EVER flossed his teeth.  Nice, Luke!

I got my yearbook on Monday as well and was tickled to see that Shelly (my favorite senior - hehehe) had "willed" me several items in her Senior Will.  Shelly has hung out in my classroom with my pretty much every day after school for the last 4 years and I'm going to miss her SOOOOOOOO much when she heads off to Auburn in the Fall.

It was also fun to see several Slightly Askew Designs senior pages in the back of the book.  LOVE all these girls!  (And when did Senior pics get so artistic and cute... mine were DEFINITELY not this good)

Tuesday morning Dave went in to get the boys up and found this...

There were CRAZY bad storms here on Tuesday (like schools in Dallas letting out early bad) and Griffin and I declared it a PJ day (although her PJs are WAY more fashionable than mine).

Haha texted us these pictures from his office downtown.  CRAZY!!!

The storms REALLY bothered Griffin :)

Saturday, May 18th

Breakfast and building with my besties :)

Raise your hand if you like to sleep in your own bed!
"MEEEEEEE"
Turns out she actually doesn't like to sleep in her own bed... we were having some sleep "issues" and decided  to try keeping her unswaddled... bad idea.  After a few days of frustration and sleepless days/nights we went back to swaddling her and putting her in the pack and play in our room and she jumped right back on the sleep train. Praise Jesus!

Mason just being Mason...

The feeling was DEFINITELY mutual :)

This was actually from Friday and it's titled, "You know you're the third baby when..."

Luke, a camera shy Griffin and I (looking super sleepy!) hanging out on Saturday afternoon...

Last Day of Pre-K

What a difference a year can make!  Our sweet boy in August and then this past week...

I really can't believe how much he's grown up and changed over the last year.  I'm not going to lie... the 2nd quarter of school was a struggle, but he made it through bigger and better and we are so grateful for the learning experience this year has been for all of us.  Luke has learned A TON, both academically and socially and we're so very grateful for his amazing teachers and the opportunity we have to send him to a Christian school.  Mike Huckabee said it at an MCA event last year, but it's so powerful to "have our values underwritten instead of undermined" when we drop him off in the morning.

He's made TONS of friends (I am always amazed at how many older kids give him little "shout outs" on the deck in the morning and apparently there was a line of kids waiting for Luke-Man to sign their yearbooks on the last day), learned an incredible amount and really flourished.

We're glad that he's loved Pre-K so much because he's actually going to be doing ANOTHER year of it :)  It was a hard decision for Dave and I, but after lots of prayer and consideration we decided to let our "baby of the class" have a chance to be one of the oldest.  Teaching middle school gives me a unique perspective and I don't think an extra year of maturing ever hurt anyone (especially boys!).  One of his besties will be doing the same thing and I know he's going to have another fantastic year.

PLUS... this means I get to keep him at home with us for an extra year and I'm definitely NOT going to complain about that.  :)

We love this sweet boy to the moon and back!
