Five on Friday

So today I'm linking up with The Good Life Blog for Five on Friday...

1) REALITY
This is my reality 98% of the time.  I used to think getting a good picture of Luke was a feat... now attempting to get THREE to look at me and smile seems like a total miracle :)  After Luke's Christmas program last night I thought it would be a good time to get a picture of the three of them in their cute outfits in front of the tree... not so much.  I know that the day will come though when I ask them to stand and smile and I can take one pic and be done... and I have a feeling that I may actually miss these days :)

2) MY JOB
I think you all know, but I teach Middle School Math at a Private Christian School.  This is my 8th year and I ADORE my job.  Its the only thing I'd leave my kids every day to do.  It can be exhausting and challenging (I deal with 100+ 12-14 year olds every day), but I love it.  This has been exam week and here are a few highlights...

Double fisting the 'bucks to make it through :)

Sarcastic Willy Wonka graced my SmartBoard this Tuesday:

Nothing like walking in to your classroom (AKA "The Math Trailer") and finding all the desks turned around.

And last - one of my kiddos posted this on her IG last week.  Yes, I taped my nose to my forehead and no, I don't regret it :)  My favorite part of my job is the "informal curriculum" where I get to build relationships with kids which allows me to speak into their lives at opportune moments.  These girls crack me up and, believe it or not, I think that taping my nose and smiling for a selfie is a way to build a rapport that makes them want to work harder in my class and hopefully, if they ever need anything they know I'm there for them ... all because I taped my hose to my head. hahaha

3) PLAYING TOGETHER
The kiddos have actually been ALL playing nicely together a lot over the past few weeks.  They love to play with Fisher Price Little People and if they continue to play so sweet like this, Mommy will buy them all the little people they could ever want!

4) MR RON
Luke and I frequent Starbucks A LOT. If this is Dave reading this, we go 2-3 times a week.  If this is anyone else reading... it's more like every school day :)  I get a Venti Awake hot tea with milk and sugar and I pretty much get a migraine by 9:30 a.m. if I don't have one. hahaha

Since we show up at almost the same time every day, we run into the same people.  Luke is a SUPER friendly kid, and he struck up a conversation with Mr. Ron last year and they were fast friends.  Mr. Ron has 6 kids and 6 grandkids scattered all over the US (seriously.... NY, San Diego, Antigua, etc.) and Luke has adopted him as an additional grandpa.  Mr. Ron loads apps on his iPad for Luke to play, Luke passes along messages about the Dallas Cowboys from his Daddy to Mr. Ron (who is a HUUUUUUGE Giants fan), and Luke ALWAYS brings a new Lego creation to show Mr. Ron in the mornings.

Mr. Ron is enthusiastic about everything Luke does and every day before we leave he tells him, "You're going to do GREAT things today and grow up to be somebody VERY important."

I love Mr. Ron and appreciate the sweet words he has for Luke.  What a sweet affirmation Luke gets daily before 7:15 a.m. :)

This morning when we showed up Mr. Ron had Christmas presents for Luke!  Legos and Hot Wheels.

5) COMPASSION
I shared this Rick Warren quote on FB and IG (@andrea2220) yesterday and got a great response (duh... Rick Warren ROCKS!) and thought I'd share it here again just in case you missed it :)

  6. I do not know how you do it all! I used to teach 3rd grade and have no idea how I would manage that with a kid, but you do it so well...with 3! And have a business! And blog. And do fun things with your family! Any secrets or wisdom?

  8. Mr Ron brought tears to my eyes!!!!! That is so wonderful! Nice to know there are still people in the world who are so kind and thoughtful. When I was younger, a server at the Piccadilly did the same thing for me. (We ate there weekly.) I was in junior high and awkward and her words stayed with me. I haven't seen her for over 10 years now and just ran into her at the mall! Believe me, Luke will never forget mr Ron!!! Precious!
