Last Day of Pre-K

What a difference a year can make!  Our sweet boy in August and then this past week...

I really can't believe how much he's grown up and changed over the last year.  I'm not going to lie... the 2nd quarter of school was a struggle, but he made it through bigger and better and we are so grateful for the learning experience this year has been for all of us.  Luke has learned A TON, both academically and socially and we're so very grateful for his amazing teachers and the opportunity we have to send him to a Christian school.  Mike Huckabee said it at an MCA event last year, but it's so powerful to "have our values underwritten instead of undermined" when we drop him off in the morning.

He's made TONS of friends (I am always amazed at how many older kids give him little "shout outs" on the deck in the morning and apparently there was a line of kids waiting for Luke-Man to sign their yearbooks on the last day), learned an incredible amount and really flourished.

We're glad that he's loved Pre-K so much because he's actually going to be doing ANOTHER year of it :)  It was a hard decision for Dave and I, but after lots of prayer and consideration we decided to let our "baby of the class" have a chance to be one of the oldest.  Teaching middle school gives me a unique perspective and I don't think an extra year of maturing ever hurt anyone (especially boys!).  One of his besties will be doing the same thing and I know he's going to have another fantastic year.

PLUS... this means I get to keep him at home with us for an extra year and I'm definitely NOT going to complain about that.  :)

We love this sweet boy to the moon and back!

  1. Isn't it crazy how much can change in one year?! My son is starting kindergarten this fall as well & I'm still in shock a little bit!

  2. I'm a follower of your blog but seldom comment. Your family is darling! We just made the same decision with our son. Like you said, it was not an easy decision to make but it gives me more confidence to see you (as a teacher) make the same call. Thanks for sharing. http://3cowboysandamommy.blogspot.com/2013/05/preschool-graduation-round-one.html

  3. Kelley - You're so sweet! It was a hard decision, but in the end I really feel at peace about it being the best one. It's funny because in my classes I can pretty much pinpoint which boys have a birthday during the first half of the year and which have a birthday during the second half based solely on behavior :) It's not ALWAYS the case, but it's kind of uncanny how often it is. Glad you're following and can't wait to follow along with your blog as well!
