Chivalry shouldn't be dead...

Today, as I attempted to load 8 cases of bottled water into my shopping cart and then again into my jeep and about half a dozen men walked right past me as I struggled, it occured to me that chivalry is officially dead.
Luke and I had a very serious conversation in the car on the way home about how I expect him to be chivalrous and polite when he grows up and always offer assistance to people in need (especially small women loading large things into their cars).
The picture doesn't really have anything to do with my post other than this is what he's been doing for the last hour and a half while I've been working on the computer. :)

4 Weeks Old!!! :)

Luke is 4 weeks old today! He is definitley packing on the pounds and we're so excited to see him developing little "rolls"! He has a lot more alert time and is developing an adorable personality. I'm about to go feed him so there's not a lot of time to write... so here are some pics to sum up our last couple of days. Snoozin with dad
Getting ready for a bath

I swear that I don't do anything to make his hair look like this... it just happens when he takes a bath! :)

Thanks!!!

Thanks to everyone who hosted and attended my wonderful baby shower this morning. It's an amazing blessing to get to be a part of such a caring and supportive group of women and I couldn't be more appreciative! Plus, I think it's extra fun that we waited until Luke arrived to have the shower since I'm not sure many people get to attend their own baby shower (outside of the womb that is!). Anyway, thanks again for everything... Luke officially now has the cutest wardrobe and I can't wait to let him try on all of his new things!

More than a little upset at the prospect of having his diaper changed
somewhat calmed down
pouty face
all better

Luke's First Prom

Yesterday was an exceptionally busy day in our house... not only was it my mom's bday (Happy Birthday, Gibi), but it was also MCA's Prom. I was more than a little nervous about Prom this year since we decided to have it at Southfork and they handle all of the decorating and other details (which StuCo and I usually take care of), but my apprehension was relieved when we got there and saw what a wonderful job they did with the student's theme (black and white art deco). Luke somehow managed to sleep through the majority of the evening (including a black jack lesson given to him by a few of my freshmen students)! We had the Prom photographer take our family picture and I'll be sure to post it once I get it, but for now... here are some pics from our very busy day:

I know that this pic is kind of blurry... but I thought it was cute 1) because it showed his dimple and 2) it kind of looks like he's dancing

Kind of icky, but I thought I'd post it anyway since this is what I spend a good portion of my day cleaning up... this pic was taken at about 10:30 in the morning and as you can see I had already given up on clothing :)

All ready for Prom!

Cutest shoes ever! :)

At Prom... I am apparently doing "I'm a Little TeaPot" with my principal :)
Couches... not beds!!!

Fun Facts...

Thanks to Melissa tagging me, you now get to find out more fun facts...
It's kind of a small miracle that I actually have time to write this today, but Luke's Gibi came over after school and played so hopefully he'll be down for a good nap for another hour or so.

4 Jobs that I have had in my life...
  1. Orisons - A store on the square where I worked during high school... I helped customers, steamed clothes and ended up doing some bookkeeping (yuck!)
  2. John Wynn's Guitar Studio - I did some marketing for John Wynn (a local guitar teacher), but then he decided to stop paying me, so I decided to stop coming in.
  3. RockFish - During college I decided that I needed to have two jobs and so I got a job hostessing at RockFish, I quit after the first day of training (I HATE fish and the thought of spending hours at a seafood restaurant became increasingly unappealing as training wore on)
  4. Judy Cureton Jewelry - I used to have a friend who was a jewelry designer and I would go to her house, photograph her jewelry and turn it into marketing pieces.

Probably going to regret this...

Well, I'm probably going to regret this, but, due to popular demand, I've decided to post a couple of pics of when I got my hair cut (refer to the "7 things you might not know about me" post). Keep in mind that it was YEARS ago :)

Minor Meltdown

So last night I had what I'm calling a "minor meltdown".
I'm no stranger to headaches (migraines even), but for some reason (probably hormones) I didn't experience a single headache during my entire pregnancy (thank goodness!). But last night I got the mother of all headaches and that, coupled with some major mama guilt for envying the days when it didn't take me as long to get ready to go to WalMart as the actual shopping did, brought on a minor meltdown yesterday evening. Thankfully, Dave has a wonderful sense of humor and was able to help me out both emotionally and physically by rubbing my temples for about 2 hours. :) I think that Luke could sense my frustration last night and decided to take it easy on me, waking only at his scheduled times and going back to bed easily after being fed. This morning he and I enjoyed some well deserved snuggle time and then ran errands in the afternoon. Tonight my mom came over (since Thursdays are my regular "date night" with my dad and he's out of town) and she and I had a chance to catch up and give Luke a bath. Nothing exciting or dramatic... but a great day nonetheless!

The Many Faces of Luke

Luke is 3 weeks and 1 day old today and I am amazed at how much personality he has already developed. We've had two great nights of sleep (10 pm feeding, 2 am feeding and 6 am feeding) which has been awesome... I never thought I'd be excited about getting 6 hours of sleep which I am going to credit partly to our amazing parenting skills :) and partly to an awesome DVD that one of Dave's co-workers let us borrow. It's called "The Happiest Baby on the Block" and it demonstrated these 5 techniques to calm a fussy baby (including swaddling as shown in the pics below) which actually work miraculously! Luke is not a particularly fussy baby, but when he decides to fuss he sure knows how to do it, and the DVD has helped tremendously!
I tried to snap some pictures last night and today and managed to get a couple of cute ones of him laying on his Jelly Cat mustang (I was able to get a couple before he spit up all over it!), some of him enjoying being swaddled after we watched "The Happiest Baby on the Block" and some of him just hanging out today (in which you'll get to see some of the many faces he's working on perfecting).

Really enjoying the soothing techniques we learned :)
I know his eyes look a little wierd... but it's the first time I've been able to get one of his "smiles" on camera :)
