Blast from the past :)

"The most beautiful discovery true friends make is they can grow separately without growing apart." ~ Elisabeth Foley

One of my favorite movies of all time is "Now and Then" 1) because it's set in one of my favorite time periods and 2) because I've always loved stories about childhood friends who are still friends as adults. Great friends are hard to come by and I think that finding a true friend as a child and staying friends with them as you grow up is a rarity which is why I'm so grateful for my friendship with Kelly Beth.

When I think about my childhood and conjure up memories, my fondest ones often involve KB. After meeting in North Carolina in 1993 we became fast friends and shared many memorable and adventurous experiences together. We were silly, goofy, spontaneous, creative and mischievous and always had a great time. I can honestly say that I don't remember us having a single fight although I do remember us writing and performing various songs and commercials, embarking upon several entrepreneurial ventures including babysitting services and having countless sleepovers.

We got back in touch several years ago and have been communicating via email ever since and so I was absolutely ecstatic when I heard that KB was coming to Dallas to visit her friend Lindsay before she (Lindsay) moved to Singapore. I was able to meet up with KB and Lindsay (who, by the way, is fabulous!) for lunch on Monday and it was a great time. It was kind of surreal to hear her voice since, since the last time we talked in person was our freshman year in high school (about 10 years ago), but she sounded the same way I remembered (which I guess is to be expected, but was still kind of neat).

The lunch was great, my only complaint being that it was WAY too short! It was really fun to get to introduce Luke to KB and I'm glad that she got to see my parenting skills in action because I would hate for her to think that I parented anything like I babysat as KB and I had many "misadventures" in babysitting together :) Anyway, I think it's rare to find a friend who you can relate to and get along with when your 10 as well as when you're 24, and I'm so glad that I've gotten to rekindle my friendship with KB.

KB - the two posts below are just for you, and I hope you appreciate them since all of my current friends who read the blog are going to be seeing some truly embarrassing pictures of me! Thank you so much for being such a great friend and for always lending your listening ear (even if it's been via email). Also, thank you for introducing me to Lindsey, you have fantastic taste in friends (but we knew that already). I'm not sure when we'll get to see each other again, but hopefully it will be soon - maybe even at Mark and Kristen Leigh's wedding. :)
